In the aftermath of the deadly terrorist assault in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Maharashtra Cyber, the cybercrime detection wing of the state police has reported a surge of over 10 lakh cyber attacks targeting Indian digital infrastructure, according to PTI.
Officials have confirmed that this spike in malicious cyber activity began shortly after the April 22 terror incident in Baisaran, near Pahalgam, where 26 individuals, most of them tourists, lost their lives in a brutal terrorist ambush.
As per PTI reports, Yashasvi Yadav, Additional Director General of Police of the Maharashtra Cyber Department, revealed that the coordinated attacks were traced to multiple foreign sources. “There were over 10 lakh cyber attacks on India after the Pahalgam attack,” said Yadav. “These originated from various countries, including Pakistan, Indonesia, Morocco, and nations in the Middle East.”
Several of the cyber offensives were reportedly carried out by hacking collectives claiming affiliation with Islamist groups. While investigations are ongoing, law enforcement authorities are not ruling out the possibility that the onslaught is part of a broader cyber warfare campaign intended to destabilise or intimidate.
The Maharashtra Cyber team has managed to thwart a significant portion of these cyber threats, thanks to heightened digital surveillance and swift countermeasures.
Navi Mumbai man injured in Pahalgam attack returns home
Navi Mumbai resident Subodh Patil, who was injured in the Pahalgam terror attack and was subsequently treated in Kashmir, has returned home to a hearty welcome by neighbours and locals, as per PTI.
Patil (60) reached his home at Royal Heights Apartments in the Kamothe area along with his wife on Thursday night, said an official. The couple was welcomed by their neighbours, relatives and locals in the area, he said.
Patil and his wife were part of a group of 39 tourists who had made a trip to Pahalgam arranged by Nisarg Paryatan Tours, the police official said.
He sustained a bullet injury to his neck when terrorists fired indiscriminately at tourists in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. Patil was at a tea stall at the time.
He was admitted to the Army hospital in Pahalgam and was allowed to go home after recovery, the official said.
