An official on Friday said that the police have registered a case against a 25-year-old man from Navi Mumbai after his neighbour accused him of raping her, reported news agency PTI.

The alleged crime was committed on April 30, said the official from the Sagri police station, reported PTI.


In her complaint, the woman from Belapur said the accused called her to his house on the pretext of some work and forced himself upon her, reported PTI.


The official said a case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 64 (1) and 351 (1) concerning rape and criminal intimidation, respectively, and a probe is underway. 

Navi Mumbai man booked for raping woman he met on dating app

In another incident, the Navi Mumbai police have registered a case against a 26-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he met on a dating application, an official said on Monday, reported PTI.

Based on a complaint, the police have registered a first information report under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code for the alleged assault that took place in September 2020, the official said.

The complainant has claimed that the accused, a resident of Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, became acquainted with her on a dating app, he said, reported PTI.

The official said the woman has alleged that the accused sexually assaulted her at a building in Kharghar, reported PTI.

"No arrests have been made in the case. We are gathering evidence and ascertaining facts," he said.

Girl held hostage, raped for 3 days by man she befriended on social media, his accomplice

A 14-year-old girl from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh was allegedly raped after being held hostage for three days by a man, whom she had befriended on a social media platform, along with his friend in neighbouring Mandla district, police said, reported PTI.

The accused, identified as Rajan, had come in contact with the girl studying in Class 7 on social media, they said.

The accused and his friend have been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), they said. Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
