The memories of the ODI World Cup 2023 still strike a painful chord with Indian cricket fans. Hosted on home soil, the tournament saw Team India storm into the final with a flawless run of nine consecutive victories, igniting hopes of a historic triumph.

As anticipation soared and national pride surged, millions of passionate supporters rallied behind the 'Men in Blue', ready to witness what they believed would be a crowning moment. Led by Rohit Sharma, India stepped onto the grand stage of the Narendra Modi Stadium for the final showdown, a high-stakes clash against a battle-hardened Australian side.

Opening the innings, Rohit seemed to be in a fine touch. In an attempt to make it big off Glenn Maxwell's over, Rohit unnecessarily charged and lost his wicket. His innings came to an end with 47 runs in 31 balls.

To date, people believe that the ODI WC story would have been different if the Indian skipper had stayed at the crease. Later, India fell short of claiming their hands on the ODI World Cup.

The grief of the defeat to the Australians was etched in the hearts of Indian fans. Later, the time came when the Australians were supposed to be given the answer to the November heartbreak.

During the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Australia, Rohit completed his revenge by playing a knock of 92 runs. On that day, the explosive Indian opener smashed seven boundaries and eight maximums. The 'Men in Blue' managed to secure a victory by 24 runs against the Aussies at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.

From misjudging a delivery in the finals to showing the Australian team the path to home, the 37-year-old didn't let down the hopes of Indian fans.

Later, under his leadership, Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, followed by the Champions Trophy 2025 title.

After winning the T20 World Cup, the veteran drew curtains on his international career in the shortest format of the game. Along with him, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, too, announced their retirements from the formats.
