A total of eight West Indian cricketers are currently involved in the IPL 2025 season. These include Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Rovman Powell representing Kolkata Knight Riders, Nicholas Pooran and Shamar Joseph featuring for Lucknow Super Giants, Shimron Hetmyer playing for Rajasthan Royals, Romario Shepherd with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Sherfane Rutherford donning the Gujarat Titans jersey.
Simultaneously, five West Indies players are part of PSL franchises, Jason Holder (Islamabad United), Gudakesh Motie and Shai Hope (Multan Sultans), Alzarri Joseph (Peshawar Zalmi), and Akeal Hosein (Quetta Gladiators).
In its official release, Cricket West Indies stated: "We are in active communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and our players currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL)."
CWI further assured that it has engaged the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA), its strategic partner, to ensure the well-being of the players. "We have also engaged our strategic partner, West Indies Players' Association (WIPA), to coordinate and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all West Indies players and support personnel in the region. The welfare of our people remains our highest priority," the board emphasised.
Additionally, CWI highlighted its proactive stance: "CWI continues to receive regular updates through diplomatic, governmental, and cricketing channels, and stands ready to offer assistance where necessary. We remain committed to the spirit of international cricket and to supporting our players through this uncertain and sensitive period."
The deteriorating regional situation has already impacted both tournaments. A PSL fixture scheduled for Thursday was postponed, with the participation of foreign players in doubt. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) convened emergency meetings to determine the tournament’s continuity. Meanwhile, the IPL fixture in Dharamsala has been relocated after multiple airports, including Dharamsala's, were temporarily closed as a security precaution.
