The Board of Control for Cricket in India has received government clearance to proceed with the IPL 2025 fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals scheduled for Thursday at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium in Dharamsala.
However, a match originally planned for May 11 against five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the same venue has been relocated to Mumbai due to emerging security concerns and logistical disruptions. A revised date for the rescheduled fixture will be announced in due course.
Dharamsala, located in proximity to the India-Pakistan border, has been identified as a region of heightened risk amid recent developments. As a result, there is increasing speculation that PBKS may shift the remainder of their home matches to alternative venues.
“BCCI gets clearance from the government to host tomorrow's match in Dharamshala, but the May 11 match shifted to Mumbai from Dharmsala, the fresh date for the match will be updated soon,” BCCI sources told ANI.
The May 11 clash between PBKS and MI was particularly impacted by operational challenges, as several airlines suspended services across 11 northern, northwestern, and central Indian cities until May 10. Affected airports include Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot.
“The match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings shifted to Mumbai from Dharmshala, as the Airport of Dharmsala has been closed, and the match was scheduled on May 11,” a BCCI official confirmed.
These developments follow a significant military operation executed by the Indian Armed Forces on Wednesday. In a coordinated mission titled Operation Sindoor, Indian forces carried out targeted strikes on nine terrorist installations. Four of these were located within undisputed Pakistani territory, Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya, while five were in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
The operation, jointly conducted by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, was aimed at eliminating senior leadership and infrastructure associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Sources confirmed that all intended targets were successfully destroyed using precision-guided munitions.
This marks India’s most extensive military operation within Pakistan’s undisputed territory since the 1971 war, reflecting a significant escalation in counterterrorism strategy.
