IPL 2025: MS Dhoni opens up on CSK's loss against PBKS

In the IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a loss by four wickets. With this, CSK marked their eighth loss of the season. Despite an improved batting performance, skipper MS Dhoni feels that the team fell short of posting a competitive total. "I think the batting, yes it was the first time we put enough runs on the board, but I feel it was slightly short of a par score," MS Dhoni said after the match, according to ESPNcricinfo. "It's demanding on the batsmen but we needed slightly more. The partnership between Curran and Brevis was fantastic. I think we need to take our catches," he added. Chennai managed to post a total of 190 runs. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Sam Curran played a knock of 88 runs in 47 balls, including nine boundaries and four maximums. Shouldering him was Dewald Brevis, who scored 32 runs off 26 balls. His knock was laced with two boundaries and a maximum. The duo scored 78 runs in the middle overs. Also Read: IPL 2025 : ‘Narine’s wickets charged us up,’ says KKR spinner Anukul Roy Further, Dhoni praised the duo by saying, "I think Curran is a fighter, we all know. Unfortunately, whenever we have tried to give him a chance so far, it was a slow wicket, but today's wicket was the best one we had at home this season." "I think it's momentum in the middle order and he's (Brevis) a very good fielder and he has good power so he can hit good balls for boundaries. He brings energy in the field too. We needed that fresh air, someone not caught up in the spiral. He can be an asset going forward," Dhoni added. Coming to the IPL 2025 match, PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl first. CSK was 48/3 at one point, then a 78-run stand between Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis (32 in 26 balls, with two fours and a six) helped them get back in the innings. Curran continued to fire single-handedly, making 88 in 47 balls, with nine fours and four sixes. CSK was bundled out for 190 in 19.2 overs. It was a hat-trick from Yuzvendra Chahal (4/32) which made CSK collapse from 172/4 to 190 all out. Arshdeep Singh (2/25) was also superb with the ball. During the run-chase, Priyansh Arya (23 in 15 balls, with five fours) and Prabhsimran Singh gave PBKS a quick start with a 44-run stand. A 72-run stand between Prabhsimran (54 in 36 balls, with five fours and three sixes) and skipper Shreyas Iyer solidified PBKS' control over the game. Iyer continued to take control, scoring 72 in just 41 balls, with five fours and four sixes and stitching a partnership with Shashank Singh (23 in 12 balls, with a four and two sixes). PBKS did lose wickets towards the end, but won by four wickets with two balls left. Khaleel Ahmed (2/28) and Matheesha Pathirana (2/45) were the top wicket-takers for CSK. PBKS is now at the second spot in the table with six wins, three losses and a no result, giving them 13 points. CSK is struggling at the bottom, with two wins and eight losses, giving them four points.(With ANI Inputs)

Wanted to do it after my 100th Test: Ashwin on retirement

Former India off-spinner R Ashwin thought about retiring after his 100th Test but finally took the call midway into the tour of Australia to ensure the “whole circle” related to his spot in the playing eleven doesn’t repeat itself. Speaking on a newly-launched podcast by Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin told fellow CSK member Mike Hussey that he made up his mind on retirement after not starting the Australia series in Perth where Washington Sundar played ahead of the veteran off-spinner. Also Read: IPL 2025 : ‘Narine’s wickets charged us up,’ says KKR spinner Anukul Roy Ashwin did play the second Test at Adelaide before being left out of the XI for the third Test at Gabba where he eventually brought the curtains down to a glorious career. “I wanted to do it after my 100th Test [in Dharamsala, March 2024]. And then I thought, Ok, let me give it a go in the home season. Because, I mean, you’re playing well, and you’re getting wickets, you’re making runs,” Ashwin said. “I thought I’d probably close off with the Chennai Test here [against Bangladesh]. I ended up getting a six-wicket haul and a hundred. So it’s very tough to quit when you’re doing very well.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. IPL 2025 : ‘Narine’s wickets charged us up,’ says KKR spinner Anukul Roy

Kolkata Knight Riders’s opener and right-arm off-spinner Sunil Narine scalped three crucial Delhi Capitals wickets — Faf du Plessis, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs — in his quota of four overs and gave away just 29 runs. He also scored 27 runs off 16 balls in an all-round show that helped KKR hand hosts DC their fourth loss in 10 matches, relegating them to fourth position.  Helpful surface for spinners In fact, not just Narine, the slow surface also helped KKR’s spinners Anukul Roy (1-27), Varun Chakravarthy (2-39) and Narine (3-29), who ensured DC could not get a big partnership going during their chase of 204 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Tuesday. DC managed only 190-9 and KKR won by 14 runs. For DC, du Plessis top-scored with 62 off 45, hitting seven fours and two sixes. Skipper Axar also did well, scoring 43 off 23. Middle-order batsman Vipraj Nigam addded a valuable 38 off 19 giving them a sliver of hope, but after he lost his stumps to Andre Russell, none of the late middle-order batters could fire for DC. Also Read: Punjab win battle of kings! Anukul Roy Speaking after the match, KKR’s left-arm spinner Anukul said, “[The] wicket was good for batting. We were practising on similar wickets in Kolkata and had an idea about where to bowl and how. It was mostly a batter’s wicket. I’m getting a lot of help from seniors like Narine and Chakravarthy. Moeen Ali has been working with me a lot and it has helped.” Roy hailed Narine for turning the game on its head  with his bowling. “The DC batters were initially batting very well, but Narine came and took quick wickets. We got charged up and the team came back into the game,” said the left-arm spinner. Nigam on target too DC’s leg-spinner Nigam, who bagged two wickets for 41 runs in four overs and was DC’s third-highest scorer, said, “Our plan was to target their main two spinners and we did so, it’s not easy to come [in] and hit such quality bowlers. If set players had continued, it would have been a different story.” Nigam added: “We tried to take the match to the last ball, but the result was not in our favour. In ther IPL, ups and downs keep coming. The main thing is how strong you are mentally, and the role of the team management, coaches etc, is very vital too. They have always backed me. I spoke to the senior players as well — they said, ‘we will continue to play the way we did at the start of the tournament,’ and not get too worried about these losses.”

Punjab win battle of kings!

Skipper Shreyas Iyer and opener Prabhsimran Singh starred with 72 and 54 respectively as Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by four wickets in their Indian Premier League match here on Wednesday. Chasing 191, PBKS finished the match with two balls to spare. Iyer’s 41-ball knock was laced with five fours and four sixes, while Prabhsimran hit five fours and three maximums during his 36-ball innings. Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana claimed two wickets each for the hosts. Also Read: B’desh crush Zimbabwe by innings and 106 runs The defeat has mathematically ruled bottom-placed CSK out of the Playoff race with just two wins in 10 matches. Earlier, Sam Curran braved testing conditions to produce an imperious 88, but a late four-wicket burst from Yuzvendra Chahal, including a hat-trick, ensured CSK were 190 all out. Curran smashed his first fifty of the season (88 off 47 balls, 9x4 4x6) as he anchored the recovery process of his side from a precarious 48-3 in the Powerplay.  With their backs against the wall, Curran teamed up with Dewald Brevis (32) to carefully plot CSK’s way back into the contest with a robust 78-run fourth-wicket stand and turned on the heat on PBKS’s bowling. Until the 16th over, CSK coasted well at nearly nine runs an over when the England all-rounder picked Suryansh Shedge to attack.  However, somehow they could not manage to reach the 200-mark. "It’s going to be an exciting challenge": Boult on facing Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Rajasthan Royals will turn up against Mumbai Indians with renewed vigour as they aim to halt the five-time champions’ surging momentum here on Thursday. With 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi potentially playing the knock of the tournament on Monday, RR have found a ray of hope in what has been an IPL campaign of missed opportunities. The hosts still have a mathematical chance of making the Playoffs but deep down the management has accepted its fate. Also Read: IPL 2025 | "We should not shower him with that much attention": Dravid on Vaibhav Suryavanshi MI pacer Trent Boult. Pic/AFP A side strain to skipper Sanju Samson paved the way for Suryavanshi’s debut and it only took him three innings to become the talking point of the cricketing world.  Having put bowlers of international repute to the sword, it would be interesting to see how southpaw Suryavanshi fares against Jasprit Bumrah. MI pacer Trent Boult described the prospect of facing Suryavanshi as “exciting”, but said it is not something that would “worry” him on a flat Sawai Mansingh Stadium deck. “[I have] bowled to some brilliant batsmen around the world, the Chris Gayles, the AB de Villiers, all the quality that comes in these tournaments. I think I’ll be careful not to say I’m worried about a 14-year-old,” Boult said.  “But it’s going to be an exciting challenge to come up against a guy who’s obviously fearless and running in hot form at the moment, so that’s what it’s about,” he added. For Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians, the return of Bumrah has coincided with their ascent to the top of the table. The perennial slow starters have now collected five wins on the bounce and look unstoppable. One of the positives for MI in the previous game was the performance of debutant Corbin Bosch who scored at a strike rate of 200 besides taking a wicket. "We should not shower him with that much attention": Dravid on Vaibhav

Rahul Dravid doesn’t want microscopic attention on 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi following his path-breaking hundred in the IPL but having said that, the Rajasthan Royals head coach knows it is something that he can’t control. Having received a barrage of questions on Suryavanshi in the Star Sports Press Room on Wednesday, Dravid realised that the cricketing world will not be leaving the talented teenager alone from now onwards.
