After a spell of dry weather and sweltering heat, Mumbai witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall across the suburbs on December 1. Amid the unseasonal rains, the IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane. The intensity of rainfall increased during the night which led to a considerable fall in temperature. The day temperature at India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius — 8 degrees Celsius below normal making Wednesday the coldest day of the season so far.
