According to Mumbai Police sources, they have recovered gutkha worth approximately Rs 6 lakh from the vehicle.
Though the driver managed to escape, the police apprehended the truck cleaner and detained him. During interrogation, he revealed that the truck had travelled from Mehsana, Gujarat, to deliver buffaloes to a stable owner in Andheri (East). The animals had been purchased two days ago.
“We called the stable owner to the police station for an inquiry. He provided purchase receipts for the livestock and also produced the truck’s booking and payment slips. He has denied any knowledge on the gutkha,” said an officer from Kasturba Police Station.
The truck has been seized, informed senior officers. On their instructions, the process of filing a first information report (FIR) is currently underway, the officer added.
