Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan welcomed consuls from over 70 countries at Raj Bhavan on the eve of Maharashtra Day, with a tribute to victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and presence of top state officials
Following the tribute, Governor Radhakrishnan and Minister Rawal personally met each of the Consuls and extended greetings for the occasion.
In a solemn yet cordial ceremony held at Mumbai’s Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, 29 April, Governor of Maharashtra C. P. Radhakrishnan hosted a reception in honour of Consuls General and Honorary Consuls representing over 70 nations. The gathering marked the eve of Maharashtra Day, observed annually on 1 May to commemorate the formation of the state.
This year’s event, convened with restraint in light of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, was organised by the State Protocol Department under the guidance of Protocol Minister Jaykumar Rawal. In a poignant gesture of solidarity, all dignitaries stood in silence for one minute to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack.

The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of state leaders and senior officials, including Professor Ram Shinde, Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council; Shambhuraj Desai, Minister of Tourism; Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of Skill Development; Manikrao Kokate, Minister of Agriculture; Nitesh Rane, Minister for Ports and Fisheries; Sanjay Sawkare, Minister of Textiles; Rashmi Shukla, Director General of Police; Manisha Mhaiskar, Additional Chief Secretary (Protocol); Vivek Phansalkar, Mumbai Police Commissioner; and Bhushan Gagrani, BMC Administrator.
After the rendition of National Anthem and State Song by the police band, Secretary to the Governor Dr. Prashant Narnavare, formally welcomed the consular corps. The reception concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement at Hutatma Chowk on the state's Foundation Day. "Maharashtra Day is an important occasion for India's most progressive state. Maharashtra, which follows the path shown by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Balasaheb Ambedkar, is determined not to stop. Our effort is to make it a trillion-dollar economy," CM Fadnavis said. He added that details of a new 100-day development initiative will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, in Pune, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar unfurled the national flag at the City Police Headquarters Parade Ground. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also unfurled the flag at Saket Maidan in Thane and paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement.
