The fencing of platform 1 at Badlapur railway station will begin early on Sunday. Central Railway (CR) will operate a special night traffic block to facilitate fencing work, which is being carried out to decongest the station and foil trespassers.
mid-day, on March 26, was the first to shed light on railway officials’ plan to segregate local trains originating from and terminating at Badlapur station by fencing up one side of its island platform and building multiple stairways to a massive elevated deck that is partially ready.
A CR spokesperson said, “This block is scheduled to be held between 12 am and 6 am on Sunday, April 20. The train departing from CSMT [Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus] at 10.42 pm, will arrive at Badlapur at 12.32 pm on platform 2 instead of platform 1. And the one departing from CSMT at 11.51 am will arrive at 1.39 am on platform 2.”
“This exercise [fencing] will help Railways add more escalators and decongest the platform,” CR chief spokesperson Dr Swapnil Nila said.
The multiple staircases, escalators and elevators planned for the island platform are expected to prove a major crowd buster, facilitating the movement of hordes of commuters.
