In a late-night raid in Kochi, Kerala, the Excise Department arrested three individuals, two of whom are noted directors, for possession of hybrid ganja. Filmmakers Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza, along with a third person named Shalif Mohammed, were taken into custody following a raid conducted around 2 AM.
Malayalam filmmakers arrested
The Excise Department found 1.6 grams of hybrid ganja in possession of the accused. The trio was later released on station bail, reports state.
Reportedly, the arrests were made following a raid at an apartment near the Gosree Bridge in Kochi. The residence reportedly belonged to cinematographer Shyju Khalid. The raid was conducted after the Excise Department received confidential information.
Khalid Rahman is known for helming films like Thallumaala and the recently released Alappuzha Gymkhana. He has earned praise for his stylised filmmaking approach. Ashraf Hamza, on the other hand, has collaborated with Rahman and also directed Malayalam films like Thamasha, Sulaikha Manzil, and Bheemante Vazhi. Shalif Mohammed, the third accused in the case, is a close friend of the directors.
This comes days after actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested for possession of drugs.

Shine Tom Chacko, who fled from a hotel in Kochi during a narcotics raid last week, was arrested by Kochi police on April 19 after about a four-hour-long interrogation. However, a few hours later, he managed to secure bail.
Speaking to ANI, Commissioner of Police Putta Vimaladitya informed that an investigation is underway. "Investigation with regard to a case registered against actor Shine Tom Chacko is going on. We have taken some samples to be forwarded to the FSL and based on the results, we will conduct further investigation. There are certain other circumstances which we are investigating as well... He is cooperating with the investigation and as of now, we will not be able to actually take it further or make any conclusive remarks unless we have some more information... He has given an explanation and we are verifying if it is true," the police official said.
Earlier, the actor appeared at the Ernakulam North Police Station with his lawyers. Shine appeared in response to a notice issued by the police, which asked him to explain the reason behind his attempt to flee from the hotel room.
