'Kaise superstar ban gaye?’: Nani reacts to Salman's remark about South fans

Telugu star Nani, who is busy promoting Hit: The Third Case, weighed in on Salman Khan’s recent remark about South fans. Around the release of Sikandar, the Bollywood superstar claimed that Hindi films, despite the biggest actors, don’t get much reception down south. Nani asserted that movie buffs in the south have grown up watching Hindi movies, whereas the popularity of regional movies is a recent phenomenon.  Nani on Salman Khan’s comment  In an interview with DNA, Nani shared, “Hindi cinema is original, South cinema came later. The love that South cinema is receiving now is a recent phenomenon. But the love that Bollywood has received in the South has been there for decades. If you ask anyone there, ‘What is your favourite Hindi film?’, they’ll have childhood memories of Amitabh Bachchan. They will talk about so many films. So we always watched (Hindi) films. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dil Toh Pagal Hai were blockbusters in Hyderabad and other southern states. Everyone is now lapping South, but Hindi cinema is always lapped up across the country.” What Salman Khan said about South fans Salman claimed, “When my film is released there, it will not get the numbers because their fan following is very strong. I’ll be on the street, and they will say, ‘Bhai, Bhai’, but they will not go to the theatres. We’ve accepted them (south stars) here, and their films do well because we go and see them, like those of Rajinikanth garu, Chiranjeevi garu, Suriya, or Ram Charan. But their fans do not go and see our films.” Reacting to Khan’s comment, Nani stated, “Nahi-nahi, waha nahi chale? Bina chale kaise superstar ban gaye? 100 per cent chalti hai, and we all love him. We all watched so many films of Salman. Movies like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun have cultural importance there. Didi Tera Dewar Deewana and other songs we used to play at our wedding.” Meanwhile, HIT: The Third Case sees Nani in the role of SP Arjun Sarkaar, as he graduates from his cameo in the second part of the franchise to a full-fledged lead role. It is set to release in cinemas on May 1.

Malayalam rapper Vedan arrested with 6 grams of ganja

Malayalam rapper and songwriter Vedan, along with eight others, was arrested today after ganja was seized from his Tripunithura flat. Reportedly, based on a tip-off, Hill Palace police carried out a raid at the apartment where eight people, along with the singer, were present. During their raid at the house, they found and seized six grams of ganja. Vedan was arrested for possession of Ganja As per PTI, a police officer involved in the raid shared, "It is a place where Vedan and his colleagues used to come to practice. During the interrogation, he admitted that he consumed ganja." Besides the drugs, police also found cash amounting to Rs 9.50 lakh, which was also seized along with the mobile phones of all the accused. As per the news agency, the singer has claimed that the money found at the residence was remuneration received for their music show. Hailing from the neighbouring Thrissur district, the musician's original name is Hirandas Murali. It has been claimed that all nine accused under the possession of ganja would undergo health examinations and other procedures soon, as per the police. The arrested individuals would be released on station bail later. A probe will be launched to investigate the source of the seized contraband, police added.  Vedan used to campaign against the drug menace Interestingly, Vedan is quite popular among youngsters and has a massive fan following. A total of 1.63 grams of hybrid ganja was seized from them, and the trio were released on station bail later. Recently, actor Shine Tom Chacko was also arrested in a drug case after escaping from a hotel during a raid. Neha Singh Rathore

Bhojpuri singer booked for questioning PM Modi’s govt after Pahalgam attack

Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh Rathore was booked on sedition charges for her post after the Pahalgam terror attack. After the horrifying incident, Neha put out a post in which she allegedly attacked the ruling government, saying the Pahalgam incident happened because of the intelligence and security failure on the part of the ruling dispensation. The case was filed after a Pakistani X handle reported her video in which she claimed that PM Modi will now seek votes in Bihar in the name of the Pahalgam attack, similar to what he did in 2019 after the Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans. FIR against Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh  Now, as per reports, the FIR registered against Neha claims that her "anti-national" statements are going viral in Pakistan and that she is getting praise from the neighbouring country for attacking the Modi government. "All these anti-national statements of Neha Singh Rathore are being used against India in the Pakistani media," it added. Bhojpuri singer Neha Singh’s video "What should I question the government about? Issues of education and health are no longer relevant. People are being killed despite the politics of nationalism, and Hindu-Muslim politics is at its peak in the country," Neha said in her video message and later went on to attack PM Modi, adding, "Should I question Mohammad Ali Jinnah?" Later in the video, she accused Modi of seeking votes in the name of the Pahalgam horror, "just like after the Pulwama attack." About the Pahalgam terror attack The deadly terror attack on the tourists claimed at least 26 lives including a local, who fought the terrorists, and tried to snatch their gun, when he was shot at. The terrorist segregated the tourists based on their faith, and shot them after finding out their religion. The terrorist outfit, The Resistance Front (TRF) has claimed responsibility for the attack. TRF is an off-shoot of the Pakistan based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and came into existence following the historic abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, which granted a special status to the Indian state, which is now a union territory. According to reports, two to three terrorists wearing army fatigues opened fire on horse-riding tourists in the Baisaran area around 2:30 p.m.  Five terrorists — including three Pakistani nationals and two residents of Jammu and Kashmir — have been identified as the perpetrators of the horrific attack, which is being described as the worst terror strike to hit the region in nearly two decades. Vaishali Samant, AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam

Vaishali Samant: ‘Hope we work together for the next 25 years’

Imagine lending your voice to an AR Rahman composition for a Mani Ratnam film only in the second year of your career. If that’s enviable, we wonder what to make of Vaishali Samant’s recent feat—25 years after singing Yaro yarodi in Ratnam’s much-loved Tamil film, Alaipayuthey (2000), she has reunited with the filmmaker and the Mozart of Madras to croon Jinguchaa for the upcoming movie, Thug Life.       “I had no idea I was singing for Mani Ratnam sir’s film,” she exclaims, jubilant to have added another Ratnam movie to her résumé. Besides the filmmaker-composer duo, another heavyweight is involved in the number. The lyrics have been penned by Thug Life’s lead actor Kamal Haasan. Tell Samant that she is in esteemed company, and she says it all came as a surprise to her. “I never ask for details. I try to give my 100 per cent to every song. It was only much later that I realised the song was for Thug Life!” A still from the song Listen to Jinguchaa once, and chances are it will play on loop in your head, or on your playlist. The number has already caught the internet’s attention for its fast-paced beats and infectious energy. It comes as another hit for Samant after Aaya re toofan from Chhaava earlier this year. She reveals that it was during the recording of the Chhaava number, also composed by Rahman, that the maestro suggested she sing Tamil songs again. Months later, she was in the studio, singing Jinguchaa. To Samant, working with Rahman is like “enrolling into a university.” “Every language carries its own cultural charm. With Jinguchaa, it was a challenge to pronounce the words like a Tamil native. In a day and age where voices come and go, Rahman sir adds the punch that makes a song stand the test of time. I hope we can continue working together for the next 25 years too.” Did you know? Superstar Kamal Haasan has penned the lyrics of Jinguchaa that features him alongside Sanya Malhotra and Silambarasan TR.
