South Korean boy band BTS member J-hope sat down for a candid chat with Japanese mixed martial artist Yoshihiro Akiyama. Hobi spoke his heart out and opened up about his emotional state growing up, which would lead him to be in tears more often, and how it changed once he embraced his thirties.
BTS J-hope doesn’t cry much anymore
J-hope and Yoshiro kickstarted their chat with the latter preparing a mean cocktail for the BTS rapper. When the martial artist asked the idol about his drinking capacity, he replied, "I turn completely red after drinking just one glass. In terms of drinking capacity, I'm about half a bottle of soju."
The highlight of the conversation was J-hope being open about his vulnerabilities, stating, “I cried a lot when I was young, but strangely, I've lost some of that since I'm in my thirties. But I think that's going to change…I think my emotional changes change as I live. Right now, I'm in a time where I don't cry much. I actually want to express more happy emotions. I think I prefer to smile more.”
J-hope also maintained that he cannot speak directly to people and keeps talking in circles, but he prefers people who are the other way around.
J-hope on reuniting with BTS members
J-hope, who is currently on his solo tour, Hope on the Stage, appeared in an interview with SiriusXM, where he shared his thoughts on the band's reunion after mandatory military service.
He was asked about what he thinks the day BTS reunites as one band after completing their military enlistment, to which the Mona Lisa hitmaker replied, “It’ll be hard to believe, as it’s been so long. Our last activities were in 2022, so three or four years will have passed by the time we reunite. It seems like the fans are eagerly waiting. I am wondering what the energy will be like once we’re back together. What will be different is that we will each have had solo experiences before coming back together as a team. So, I’m looking forward to it.”
J-hope is set to bring his solo tour to Thailand on May 10-11, Macau on May 17-18, Taiwan on May 24-25, and Japan on May 31 and June 1.
J-Hope is the second member of BTS to return after his military service, with Jin, the eldest member of the group, who returned in June 2024.
