Formula Bharat, India’s Formula Student Competition, is set to celebrate its 10th edition from January 21 to 26, 2026, at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. This milestone marks a decade of driving engineering excellence, innovation, and empowering student talent from across the country.

Backed once again by global software leader MathWorks, this season reaffirms the vital role industry partnerships play in shaping future-ready engineers. With a focus on expanding industry involvement, Formula Bharat will be actively gauging additional support through collaborations in this landmark edition.

Since its inception, Formula Bharat has grown into a dynamic platform that bridges classroom theory and real-world engineering practice. It challenges students to design, build, and test Formula-style vehicles, simulating product development cycles found in top-tier automotive firms. From design and simulation to business planning and teamwork, the event cultivates core skills aligned with the needs of today’s mobility sector.

“Formula Bharat is not just a competition - it’s a launchpad for engineering talent that’s ready to shape the future of mobility and innovation,” says Crystal Furtado, Chief Executive Officer of Curiosum Tech, the host organization of Formula Bharat. “By encouraging students to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios, this platform builds the kind of engineering mindset that textbooks alone cannot.”

MathWorks, known globally for its MATLAB and Simulink tools, continues its support to help reinforce the competition’s emphasis on simulation-driven design and model-based engineering. Their involvement is a testament to the shared mission of nurturing skilled, future-ready engineers.

“At MathWorks, we prepare the next generation of engineers by equipping them with industry-standard tools, training, and mentoring. Formula Bharat provides a valuable platform for students to apply classroom theory to real-world engineering challenges. As the automotive industry rapidly evolves with electric, autonomous, and connected technologies, Formula Bharat brings these trends into the competition environment, encouraging students to innovate at the cutting edge. With teams using MATLAB and Simulink to develop electric and driverless vehicles, they gain hands-on experience that builds critical skills aligned with today’s most in-demand areas in the automotive space,” says Dr. Veer Alakshendra, Manager of Education Programs Team at MathWorks.

Renita Dsouza, Chief Marketing Officer at Curiosum Tech, adds: “This 10th season is more than just an anniversary - it’s a reflection of how far Indian student motorsport has come. We’re proud to work alongside MathWorks and look forward to welcoming new industry partners who want to help shape the next generation of engineering talent.”

The 2026 edition will feature Combustion and Electric vehicle categories, with teams undergoing intensive static and dynamic evaluations. Judging criteria will include innovation in design, cost optimization, business case development, and on-track performance — closely aligned with international Formula Student standards.

Registrations are now open. Engineering institutions across the country are encouraged to sign up by April 29, 2025, to be part of this historic season. With over 150 institutions having participated over the years, Formula Bharat stands as a cornerstone of India’s student motorsport ecosystem and a launchpad for industry-ready engineers.

As the countdown to January 2026 begins, Formula Bharat invites students, educators, and professionals to be part of a decade-long legacy of engineering, resilience, and innovation.
