India, UK ink ‘landmark’ trade deal

India and the UK on Tuesday confirmed the completion of a "landmark" trade deal, which locks in reductions on 90 per cent of tariff lines and is expected to add 4.8 billion pounds annually to the British economy by 2040.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Keir Starmer are said to have had a "very warm" phone call to agree the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). "Today we have agreed a landmark deal with India, which will grow the economy and deliver for British people and business," Starmer said in a statement.

Modi said that the landmark pacts will catalyse trade, investment, gwrowth and job creation in both the economies.

J&K: 4 killed as bus falls into gorge

Four passengers including a soldier were killed and 44 others injured after a private bus skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Tuesday, officials said.

The bus was on its way to Mendhar from Ghani village when its driver lost control around 9.20 am and the vehicle rolled down into the gorge. Locals immediately launched a rescue operation and were joined by police, army and CRPF personnel.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed their grief over the accident. "Immediate directions have been issued to ensure the best possible medical care and full support to those affected," Abdullah said.
