Ditch Marine Drive’s endless crowd for some sea breeze at other spots. The sun’s efforts to melt you away may be mighty. Still, mornings or evenings in a sea-facing park will make summer bearable with the sea breeze. Enjoy a sunset solo, an evening stroll, or reclaim some calm that’s rare due to the city’s pace.
Hinduja Park, Mahim
This elevated garden in Mahim is a local secret. Perched right at the sea next to Hinduja Hospital, it gives you uninterrupted views of the Mahim Bay and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. It’s quiet, clean, and even has a gazebo to sit and catch up with a friend.
Chimbai Jetty, Bandra
This working fisherfolk jetty in Chimbai village is the kind of place you stumble upon and feel like you’ve unlocked a Mumbai level. It’s raw, real, and still untouched by the Bandra brunch crowd.
Girgaum Chowpatty sea deck
Skip the sand and walk straight to the sea. The Girgaum sea deck juts into the water, giving you a stunning view of the Queen’s Necklace from the edge. Perfect for a breezy pitstop post-work. Go early to beat the Instagrammers. You can walk here from the nearest station, Charni Road.
Viewing point near Walkeshwar
On the winding road from Chowpatty to Walkeshwar, there’s a blink-and-you-miss-it lookout point just after the Babulnath junction. It’s barely big enough for three or four people, but the view — Mumbai’s skyline, and a hazy horizon — is breathtaking. Park at Wilson College and walk it.
Suruchi Beach, Vasai
This beach is wide, peaceful, and framed by casuarina trees, or the she-oak trees. While it’s slightly outside the city, Suruchi makes for a great half-day getaway. You can take a rickshaw ride from Vasai station to get here, or drive yourself. Bring a mat, a book, some snacks, and let time slow down. It’s especially breezy just before sunset.
Sion Fort
The fort comes with a sweeping view of the eastern waterfront. You’ll see the docks, a busy port, and a rarely photographed side of Mumbai. Visit at sunrise and enjoy some solitude in the fort’s garden.
Sagar Upvan, Colaba
Also known as Bombay Port Trust Garden, this well-maintained garden in Colaba is a sea-facing haven. Think manicured lawns, shaded pathways, and panoramic harbour views. Entry is just Rs 10, and you will get to spot various plant species with the breeze.
Sagar Vihar, Vashi
Across the creek in Navi Mumbai is this waterfront garden with paved paths, tree cover, and a view of the Thane Creek’s backwaters. It’s ideal for cycling or lounging with a book in hand.
