Record-breaking ton by 14-year-old Vaibhav SuryavanshiFourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest player to score a century in T20 cricket. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener stunned the cricketing world by smashing a 38-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Jaipur on Monday. Suryavanshi’s century came off just 35 balls, making it the fastest ton by an Indian in IPL history, and the second-fastest overall, behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors India in 2013. The Bihar southpaw's innings included 11 towering sixes off experienced Indian pacers Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj, spinner Washington Sundar and Afghanistan fast bowler Karim Janat. He also smashed 30 runs off Janat — the most in an over in this edition of the IPL. His blistering knock helped RR chase GT’s 209-4 in just 15.5 overs. Second IPL hat-trick for Yuzvendra ChahalLeg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a magical performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday, claiming four wickets in an over, including a hat-trick. His second IPL hat-trick helped Punjab Kings (PBKS) secure a four-wicket win. Chahal, who went wicketless in his first two overs(0-23), returned to bowl the penultimate over. The 34-year-old was put under pressure after conceding a six to CSK skipper MS Dhoni, but the veteran leg-spinner bounced back by having Dhoni caught at long-off. His hat-trick included the wickets of Deepak Hooda, Impact Substitute Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad. Chahal’s 4-32 ensured CSK collapsed to 190 after they looked set to easily go past 200. Overall, Chahal is the third player to claim two or more hat-tricks in the IPL after former leggie Amit Mishra (3) and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh (2). Record 150th win for MIMumbai Indians (MI), IPL’s most successful franchise, became the first team to register 150 wins in the tournament. The five-time IPL champions achieved this feat during their dominant 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Their victory over RR on Thursday took their overall tally to 151 wins in 272 matches. CSK are the second-best team with 140 wins from 249 games. The game against LSG also saw pacer Jasprit Bumrah (174; latest tally is 176 wickets) surpass former speedster Lasith Malinga (170 wickets) as MI’s leading wicket-taker. This week also saw Hardik Pandya’s side beating RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for the first time since 2012. Former champs CSK, RR knocked out of Playoff raceWith 19 matches to go before the league stage ends, IPL-18 saw two former champions, CSK and RR, knocked out of the Playoffs race within a span of two days. On Wednesday, five-time winners CSK were dealt a big blow after they went down to PBKS by four wickets. The defeat left CSK languishing at the bottom of the table, with just two wins from 10 matches. Just 24 hours later in Jaipur, RR suffered a crushing 100-run defeat at home against MI. RR have won just three out of 11 games so far and are placed eighth in the points table. RCB make history with six consecutive away winsRCB scripted history this year by becoming the first team to win all six consecutive away matches. Their latest away win came against Delhi Capitals at Feroz Shah Kotla, where they beat the hosts by six wickets with nine balls to spare. The Rajat Patidar-led side began their campaign with a victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening encounter at Eden Gardens. Their next away assignment was against CSK in Chennai, which they won comfortably by 50 runs. The three-time IPL finalists later went on to beat MI, RR and PBKS in their own dens. RCB will be desperate to become the first team to make it a perfect seven when they face LSG in an away encounter on May 9.

03 May,2025 07:12 AM IST | Mumbai | A CorrespondentUndeterred by their hopes of securing an IPL playoffs berth this seasons going up in smoke, Rajasthan Royals fielding coach Dishant Yagnik asserted that his side will keep backing youngsters despite criticism over releasing superstars like Jos Buttler and Trent Boult ahead of the mega auction. Asked about the difference between last year’s star-studded team and this editions relatively young and inexperienced side, Yagnik replied, “There’s a great point in your question about star [players]. Whenever a new player arrives, he is not a star but he is made into one.” “Last year, the players we had were not stars when they entered the team but they became stars and now the players that we have got in the team, we will make them stars. We don’t buy superstars, we make superstars and this is our tagline,” he said at the post-match media conference. 03 May,2025 07:10 AM IST | Jaipur | PTIAfter Mumbai Indians (MI) stormed to the top of the points table with a 100-run thrashing of Rajasthan Royals (RR), skipper Hardik Pandya said going back to playing cricket with a simpler approach has worked very well for the side. Another half-ton for Rohit At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, thanks to 61 and 53 from Ryan Rickleton and Rohit Sharma, respectively, and 48 not out each by Suryakumar Yadav and captain Pandya, Mumbai Indians posted a mammoth 217-2. The bowlers then turned the heat on in their bowling efforts to bowl out a listless RR for 117 in 16.1 overs and get a win in Jaipur for the first time since 2012. With their sixth consecutive win in IPL 2025, MI have solidified their standing as title contenders. MI skipper Hardik Pandya during his unbeaten 48 against RR in Jaipur on Thursday. Pic/PTI “The way we batted, and we were clinical with the ball — so absolutely [a perfect game]. We could have got another 15 runs. What we said to each other was play percentage shots. Surya and I said there’s value for shots... Ro and Ryan batted the same way. “I think it was absolutely fantastic. It is never about people getting chances; it’s about what is required in the situation. People are going back to batsmanship. As a group, the way we batted was proper batsmanship. I don’t know who all to mention [among the bowlers]. Everyone is really clear. We’re going back to simple cricket, and it’s working for that. We want to take it game by game, and be humble and disciplined,” said Pandya at the post-match presentation ceremony. Rickelton happy Rickelton, who was named Player of the Match, said it was an awesome night for him to perform for MI. “I have family here as well, come up this week. Really good week. It was a bit of a slow start. We’re clicking nicely as a partnership together. With the weather looming around, we were unsure.” “That’s probably the thing about the IPL [adapting to the conditions]. I was guilty in the first quarter of the tournament in trying to do too much. We have such a think tank, senior players, and management group.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. 03 May,2025 07:10 AM IST | Jaipur | IANSRiding on an 87-run stand by openers Shubman Gill (76 off 38 balls) and Sai Sudharsan (23-ball 48) along with one-down batter Jos Buttler’s quickfire 37-ball 64, Gujarat Titans beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs in the Indian Premier League here on Friday. Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler fired in unison with their explosive batting to propel GT to 224-6. In reply, SRH managed only 186-6 in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma top-scored for SRH with 74 off 41 deliveries, while pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets each for the hosts. The victory ensured GT moved up to second position on the points table with seven wins from 10 matches. Earlier, sent in to bat, skipper Gill got the innings underway for GT when he flicked a loose Mohammed Shami delivery over deep square leg for a six. Having conceded 11 runs in the first over, Shami looked off-colour as Sudharsan dispatched the seamer for five boundaries, including four on the trot. SRH captain Pat Cummins brought himself into the attack, but the carnage continued as Gill launched into his opposite number, first greeting him with a cover drive and then playing an even better shot through the gap between mid-off and cover. Cummins punished It was a forgettable start for Cummins as Gill smoked the Australian speedster for a maximum over deep mid-wicket to collect 17 from that over. The best part of their game was that both Gill and Sudharsan were toying with the SRH bowlers without taking any risks and instead relied on class to get the runs. GT amassed 82 runs in the Powerplay, following which spin was introduced in the form of Zeeshan Ali and the leg-spinner gave his team a much-needed breakthrough by having Sudharsan caught by keeper Heinrich Klaasen off a googly. In the company of Buttler, Gill continued at the same pace and reached his half-century with a beautiful drive through extra cover for a four, taking 25 balls to get to his fifty. Buttler also looked in good nick and smashed Ansari straight down the ground for a six, and three balls later, the Englishman crossed 4,000 runs in IPL. Worse was in store for SRH as Cummins dropped Gill after Harshal Patel deceived the batter with a slower ball. Gill was on 66. Run-out drama However, the GT captain did not last long thereafter as he was run out following a throw by Harshal at short fine-leg and Klaasen, instead of catching the ball deflected it onto the stumps. The TV umpire took his time before ruling in favour of SRH. Buttler then propped up GT with his power-hitting. Jaydev Unadkat (3-35) picked up three wickets in the 20th over that went for 12 runs. 03 May,2025 07:09 AM IST | Ahmedabad | AgenciesSport by itself is unpredictable, the fickle T20 format even more so. But Royal Challengers Bengaluru and their legion of fans are perfectly entitled to believe they are tantalisingly close to clambering back to the top of the Indian Premier League table and all but securing their place in the Playoffs with plenty to spare, unlike last year. Twelve months back, one of the more popular franchises left it very late, having to string together six straight victories to sneak into the second stage. This year, they have been practically unstoppable, especially away from home, though they did finally manage to break their M Chinnaswamy Stadium duck last week, after three successive defeats. Poor season for Dhoni & Co Standing between them and an almost guaranteed berth in the next stage are a team at the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Where RCB had an excellent auction in November, former five-time champions Chennai Super Kings made several dubious calls, which has translated into a nightmarish run. CSK are propping up the table with just two wins from 10 outings; victory at Chepauk in their opening game against Mumbai Indians six weeks back was a false dawn. Their batting has come a cropper, the bowling has followed suit and as batting coach Mike Hussey admitted on Friday afternoon, their fielding too has left a lot to be desired. They lost designated captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to an elbow injury early in the tournament and not even Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the one-time worker of miracles, has been able to turn the clock back. Dhoni has seldom looked as helpless as in the last few weeks, almost waving the white flag and talking about planning for the next season long before CSK’s exit was formalised after defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Wednesday. CSK can at best play party-poopers, starting with Saturday’s faceoff against high-flying RCB at the Chinnaswamy. Sometimes, early elimination can work wonders and free up minds. While collectively, the team has only pride to play for, individually, there is plenty at stake for numerous players, not least the young batting triumvirate of Shaik Rasheed, teenaged opener Ayush Mhatre and South African Dewald Brevis. It is to this trio that holds the key to CSK’s future, along with a few reinforcements bound to be summoned in the closed season. A good outing against a crack bowling attack expertly spearheaded by Josh Hazlewood will do wonders for their confidence and perhaps precipitate a change in the CSK stance, from a concerted dependence on experience to a more T20-centric reliance on the fearlessness of youth. Kohli holds the key RCB have been electric with their batting, Virat Kohli firing on all cylinders, and Hazlewood has helmed a terrific pace group in which Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal too have been penetrative. Krunal Pandya’s best season with the ball has allayed any concerns regarding their spin resources. If there is one thing RCB should guard against, it’s peaking too early, though for a side still searching for its first title, motivation will hardly be at a premium. The hosts will be hoping evening rains that have been lashing the city for the last few days stay away on Saturday, though the lead-up has been anything but promising, given that both teams’ practice session on Friday were scuttled by the elements.
03 May,2025 07:09 AM IST | Bangalore | R KaushikGujarat Titans delivered a resounding performance to outplay Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs in Match 51 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. With this dominant win, GT not only bolstered their playoff hopes but also officially knocked the Pat Cummins-led SRH out of contention. Opting to field first after winning the toss, SRH hoped to make early inroads, but their strategy misfired spectacularly. GT openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan came out all guns blazing, tearing into the bowling attack during the powerplay. The duo helped GT reach 50 inside just four overs, with Gill setting the tone by sending a Pat Cummins short delivery sailing over deep square leg. Sudarshan played an explosive knock of 48 off 23 balls, laced with nine boundaries, before being dismissed in the seventh over by leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari. His dismissal did little to halt the Titans’ charge, as Jos Buttler strode in and kept the scoreboard ticking aggressively. Gill, in sublime touch, brought up his half-century with effortless grace, peppering the off-side with elegant drives and calculated aggression. He was eventually run out for a blistering 76 off just 38 deliveries, including 10 fours and 2 sixes, during the 13th over. Buttler took over the mantle and continued the onslaught. He hammered a six to bring up GT’s 200 and reached his own fifty in style, finishing with 64 off 37 balls. Washington Sundar’s quick cameo in the final overs ensured GT ended with a formidable 224/6. Among the SRH bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat stood out with figures of 3/35 in four overs. Cummins and Ansari chipped in with a wicket each, but the bowlers were largely ineffective on the flat Ahmedabad surface. Chasing a steep target, SRH lost key wickets at crucial junctures despite a valiant 41-ball 74 from Abhishek Sharma. Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek fell in quick succession, denting SRH’s chase. With the required run rate surging past 20 in the death overs, the pressure proved too much. Nitish Reddy and Cummins tried to salvage the chase, but SRH ultimately fell short, finishing on 186/6 in their 20 overs. Gujarat’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding sealed the win, ending SRH’s playoff hopes and underlining GT’s title ambitions.
02 May,2025 11:45 PM IST | Ahmedabad | mid-day online correspondentShubman Gill’s blazing knock was overshadowed by a controversial dismissal that left the skipper fuming in a high-octane IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. Gill was in supreme touch, hammering a 38-ball 76 to give Titans a blistering start. Alongside Sai Sudharsan, he launched a brutal assault on the SRH bowling, adding 87 runs in just 6.5 overs. Sudharsan’s 23-ball 48, marked by clean timing and graceful strokes, set the tone before he fell to Zeeshan Ansari’s googly, caught behind by Heinrich Klaasen. Shubman Gill runout controversy!#GTvsSRHpic.twitter.com/lZIR9PjHVX — Sports Taapu (@SportsTaapu) May 2, 2025 Despite that, the Titans maintained their momentum. Jos Buttler joined Gill and carried the attack forward, eventually contributing a 37-ball 64. The Englishman also crossed the 4000-run milestone in IPL with a towering six off Ansari. Their combined efforts propelled GT to a formidable 224/6. However, the biggest talking point of the innings was Gill’s bizarre run-out on the last ball of the 13th over. Buttler tapped a delivery from Ansari towards short fine-leg and set off for a quick single. Harshal Patel fielded sharply and unleashed a direct hit at the stumps. Gill was visibly short of his ground, but controversy erupted when replays showed Klaasen’s gloves brushing the stumps almost simultaneously with the ball’s arrival. The third umpire deliberated at length, scrutinising multiple angles, but eventually ruled Gill out. The decision left the GT skipper visibly displeased. Moments later, cameras caught him in a heated exchange with the match officials in the dugout, clearly questioning the verdict. Despite the setback, Gill’s innings had already done the damage. He brought up his half-century with a signature drive through extra cover, needing just 25 balls to reach the landmark. He also survived a dropped chance by Pat Cummins on 66, following a slower delivery from Harshal Patel that deceived him. Unfortunately for Gill, his second life didn’t last long, thanks to the controversial dismissal. GT finished strong, thanks to some lusty blows from Buttler and a cameo from David Miller. Jaydev Unadkat’s triple strike in the final over pegged the Titans back slightly, but the total of 224 remained a daunting challenge for SRH.
