The sharp lens of the judiciary has come down heavily on two individuals who allegedly produced forged documents as bail surety for a rape accused, Sajid Khan. The 21-year-old Khan was arrested by the Tilak Nagar police in a rape case in April.

While the police were in the process of filing the charge sheet against Khan, he applied for a bail and, as surety, ‘arranged’ two men who were produced before the court in Vikhroli on Tuesday.

The duo have been identified as Ajay Naresh Rao and Ajinath Uttam Pagare, both residents of Thane City. They came up with eight bogus documents, including Aadhaar card, PAN card, income tax verification, and even bank statements, which were caught by the court during the verification process.

Looking at the documents, the court immediately directed the Vikhroli police to book the two individuals for attempting to cheat the court following which they were taken into custody and a fresh FIR was registered against them on Thursday. Meanwhile, Khan’s bail application was rejected by the court, and he was remanded to judicial custody.

According to Shashikant Pawar, senior police inspector at Tilak Nagar police station, Khan was booked on April 4 following a complaint from a 26-year-old woman. In her statement, she alleged that Khan raped her after promising marriage. He was subsequently arrested, and the process of filing the charge sheet was initiated when he applied for bail. “We are expediting the process of filing and submitting the charge sheet,” said Pawar.

Suryakant Naikwadi, senior police inspector at Vikhroli police station, said, “The duo has been arrested, and they are currently in our custody. During questioning, we asked them about the source of the forged documents, and they named a person identified as Nalawade. We are now searching for this third accused.” In the forged documents, the names of Rao and Pagare were named as Jayprakash Gaud and Ravi Gawli. Nalawade is the mastermind behind the scheme, who paid Rs 2000 to the duo to pose as Gaud and Gawli in order to get Khan the bail, police sources said.

“The duo will be produced in court for remand on Friday, and further investigation will proceed based on the court’s direction,” Naikwadi added.

The main accused in the case, as of now, is Nalawade, and his connection with the alleged rape accused Khan is being investigated, police sources confirmed.
