Former England captain Michael Vaughan on Friday suggested the possibility of relocating the remainder of the 18th edition of the IPL 2025 to the United Kingdom after the tournament was suspended for a week.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed the one-week suspension of the IPL 2025 amid cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. With uncertainty surrounding the future of the high-profile league, Vaughan raised the idea of finishing the tournament in the UK. He proposed that Indian players could stay on after the IPL to participate in their upcoming five-match Test series against England, set to begin on June 20.
"I wonder if it's possible to finish the IPL in the UK... We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series... Just a thought?" Vaughan posted on X.

The suggestion quickly garnered a mixed reaction from cricket enthusiasts. Some users raised concerns over security, with one comment noting, "UK. Another Islamic country! Can’t afford to take the risk for the safety of our players! Sorry!"

Meanwhile, others voiced sentiments aligned with the ongoing conflict, suggesting that the IPL should not take place while soldiers were fighting on the borders. “It's not that we can’t hold IPL because of security reasons. We can do that. We don't want to have IPL - a form of entertainment when our soldiers are at the border. Please understand the sentiments,” one fan responded.

Additionally, some skeptics highlighted the risk of unpredictable weather conditions, with one user commenting, "Half of the match will be suspended because of rain (sic)." On the other hand, there were fans who supported Vaughan’s proposal, with one remarking, “That’s a great idea, Vaughany! Imagine the buzz. Plus, it would be perfect prep for the Test series.”
Only to see half the matches getting washed out😭

The suspension of the IPL followed the abrupt cancellation of the much-anticipated match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday night. The match was called off midway through the first innings due to security concerns. Fans were quickly asked to leave the stadium, and both teams were escorted back to their hotels under tight security.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the revised schedule for the tournament would be revealed after discussions with all relevant authorities and stakeholders.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” he said in the official statement.
