The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received a bomb threat email on Friday, warning of an imminent bomb attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The threat is allegedly a retaliatory response to 'Operation Sindoor', a recent military campaign undertaken by Indian armed forces against terror camps in Pakistan.
According to a senior DDCA official who spoke with IANS, the email stated: “There will be a bomb blast in your stadium. We have a committed Pakistan sleeper cell active in India. The blast will be our revenge of Operation Sindoor.” Following the receipt of the email, authorities promptly filed a police complaint and security measures were heightened around the stadium.

The stadium, which had been serving as the home ground for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2025, was immediately suspended from hosting further matches by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The venue was slated to host Delhi Capitals’ final league match of the season against Gujarat Titans on May 11, but that fixture now stands cancelled.
In response to the threat and growing geopolitical tensions, the BCCI made the unprecedented decision to suspend the remainder of IPL 2025 for a duration of one week. Speaking on the matter, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirmed the suspension and emphasised national solidarity.
“IPL 2025 has been suspended for a week in view of the current situation. The new schedule for the tournament will be announced after consultation with the government, stakeholders and the broadcasters. We are proud of the Indian Army. BCCI stands with our Armed Forces and the government,” he said.
The suspension followed the abrupt cancellation of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala. The game was called off during the first innings, with spectators asked to vacate the venue as a precautionary measure. Both teams were safely escorted back to their hotels under heightened security.
