Previously, teammate Marcus Stoinis revealed that Maxwell broke his finger while training ahead of the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He also mentioned that the all-rounder was likely to be ruled out of the tournament. The official announcement of Maxwell being ruled out came after Punjab Kings registered a four-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday.Â
Punjab had opted to bowl first and included only three overseas players in the playing eleven. Suryansh Shedge was named as Maxwell's replacement for the game.
Speaking about Maxwell at the toss, skipper Shreyas Iyer said, "It is very unfortunate that he's got a fractured finger. To be honest, we have not decided about the replacements yet so far but we are pretty strong in our team's mindset and what we have outside of our playing XI. We have got a variety of players who can win you matches. So we are going to stick to that as much as possible".
