Table-toppers Gujarat Titans got back to business on Sunday after a brief hiatus, following encouraging signs that the IPL 2025 season is set to resume on May 15 or 16. This comes in the wake of the ceasefire agreement declared between India and Pakistan on Saturday, easing regional tensions and allowing the tournament to restart.
According to a report by the Times of India, the Shubman Gill-led franchise wasted no time in getting back on the field. The team resumed training at their home base, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
“Yes, we have started training. The boys looked sharp, and we are ready to go," a Gujarat Titans official told TOI.
News agency PTI reported on Sunday that the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council have asked all ten IPL 2025 franchises to regroup at their respective venues in preparation for the remaining fixtures. The league was suspended on May 9 for a week due to escalating geopolitical tensions.
Gujarat Titans were among the first teams to assemble and begin training. All players were present for the session except for former England white-ball captain Jos Buttler and South African pacer Gerald Coetzee, who are yet to return to India.
Prior to the suspension, Gujarat Titans had been in excellent form throughout the season. The team created IPL history by becoming the first side to have three batters each score over 500 runs in a single season, Sai Sudharsan, Gill, and Buttler have all crossed the milestone.
Their bowling unit has been equally effective. Three GT bowlers, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and R Sai Kishore, are ranked among the top 10 wicket-takers of the tournament. Krishna, in particular, has been outstanding, currently leading the Purple Cap race with 20 wickets in just 11 matches.
With eight wins in 11 games, Gujarat Titans sit comfortably atop the points table with 16 points. The team needs just one more victory from their remaining three league matches to confirm a spot in the playoffs, their third qualification in four IPL seasons.
Their most recent outing before the pause saw them edge past Mumbai Indians by three wickets in a tightly contested match at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6.
