This dance form is traditionally performed during the harvest season, reflecting Assam’s deep agrarian roots that unite communities across regions
The Bihu celebrations began on Monday with the Garu Bihu festivities. The day is dedicated to the worship of the cow, symbolising motherhood, sustenance, and purity
"Only after worshipping the cow with devotion and gratitude on this day, do Assamese families move forward to celebrate Manuh Bihu and the joyous festivities that follow," CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in a post on X
"At sunrise, cows are taken to rivers, ponds, or designated bathing spots and gently cleansed with a paste of turmeric and black gram, both known for their purifying properties," he added in the X post
