West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday appealed to private English-medium schools in the state to declare their summer vacation from May 9 in light of the escalating tension between India and Pakistan. Her request came hours after the Indian armed forces launched missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) under `Operation Sindoor`, in retaliation for the massacre of 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22, PTI reported.

Operation Sindoor LIVE Updates: Mock drills simulating multiple hostile scenarios conducted across country
Mock drills simulating multiple hostile scenarios like air raids, multiple fire emergencies, and search and rescue operations were carried out in several states and Union Territories (UTs) on Wednesday as part of the nationwide mega civil defence mock drill `Operation Abhyaas`, PTI reported. The mock drills took place a few hours after the Indian military launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in a strong response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. The April 22 attack, carried out by the terror organisation The Resistance Front, killed 26 civilians.

Operation Sindoor Live Updates: India used its `right to respond` to terror attack, says Rajnath Singh
India`s military scripted "history" by acting with "precision, precaution and compassion" in destroying terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir under `Operation Sindoor`, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday. In his first remarks following the strike, Singh said India used its "right to respond" to the Pahalgam attack and that the targets were destroyed as per plan.
