In a nowcast warning issued by the IMD Mumbai at 4 pm on May 8 said, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and Light spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Ratnagiri, Pune, Jalgaon, Dhule, Mumbai city and Mumbai suburb during next 3-4 hours"
A similar alert was issued for parts of Maharashtra including Palghar, Nandurbar, Raigad. In a nowcast warning, the IMD Mumbai said, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and Light to Moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Nandurbar, Thane, Nashik, Palghar and Raigad during next 3-4 hours"
Rain and thunder activity began late Tuesday across Mumbai, Thane, and parts of Palghar, following a day of unusually high temperatures
Parts of Mumbai had experienced sudden gusts followed by spells of moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder on Tuesday and Wednesday
On May 6, the IMD had issued a 'yellow alert' for Mumbai and some other parts of Maharashtra, predicting thunderstorm and light rains which remained in place until Thursday morning
