The Central Railway on Friday said it was planning to curtail existing Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) at Kurla station in Mumbai up to platform 7 and, to maintain east-west pedestrian movement, was building a skywalk connecting all station FOBs up to the Tilaknagar end.

The construction of the Kurla Flyover, an integral component of the CSMT–Kurla 5th and 6th Line Project (17.50 km), has recorded substantial progress between January 2024 and April 2025. This critical infrastructure upgrade aims to facilitate the laying of new rail lines and improve commuter movement across Kurla, in connection with the Kurla–Parel 5th & 6th Line work (10.1 km).

To accommodate the proposed rail lines, the existing Harbour Line platforms 7 and 8 are being dismantled, and rail traffic will be diverted onto a newly constructed elevated flyover deck. The flyover spans 1,339 metres, consisting of a 413-metre ramp at the CSMT end, a 422-metre ramp at the Panvel end, and a 504-metre level portion. A new station building is also included in the scope of work.

To maintain east-west pedestrian movement, existing FOBs at Kurla will be curtailed up to Platform 7. As a replacement, a skywalk connecting all station FOBs up to the Tilaknagar end is under construction.

In the last six months, good progress has been made in the execution of this work:

PSC Girder Casting: 10 nos

Deck Slab Casting: 9 spans

Pier Construction: 6 nos

Pier Cap Construction: 2 nos

PSC Girder Stressing: 64 girders (1st stage: 24 girders; 2nd stage prestressing: 40 girders)

Launching of PSC Girders: 20 nos

Boring and Casting of Pile Foundations: 142 nos

On average, 50 labourers are deployed daily. The use of ready-mix concrete and 350-tonne capacity heavy-duty cranes ensures quality and efficiency in execution.
