A fire broke out at an industrial estate in Andheri on Thursday, said civic officials.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire broke out at Gala No. 44 in the Apollo Industrial Estate, located near Holy Family School in Andheri (East), Mumbai, on the morning of May 8, 2025. The blaze, which began at around 5:56 am, quickly spread to the electric wiring, office files, furniture, and medical supplies stored on both the first and ground floors of the industrial unit.
The fire was reportedly confined to the electrical installations and various office equipment, including computers, printers, a Xerox machine, and a large stock of medical items such as diapers, wheelchairs, and surgical equipment.
Fortunately, emergency services were quick to respond. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), along with local police, Adani Fire Services, 108 Ambulance, and ward staff, were all mobilised to the scene.
By 08:50 am, the fire was fully extinguished, and no injuries were reported. The authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire, while assessing the damage to the building and the loss of valuable equipment and supplies.
Fire breaks out at South Mumbai showroom, no injuries reported
Earlier this month, a level-II fire broke out early on Monday morning at a garments showroom located on the ground floor of a six-storey residential building in the Pedder Road area of South Mumbai. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the blaze, which erupted at approximately 6:30 am, originated in Shop Nos. 2 and 3 of the Libbas showroom, situated in the Shukhshanti Building near Jaslok Hospital and Nana Chowk. According to civic officials, the fire was confined to the electric wiring, installations, and stock of garments within the showroom premises. Thick smoke had logged the entire structure, prompting a full-scale emergency response.
Eight fire engines and multiple firefighting vehicles were immediately mobilised by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), along with personnel from the police, BEST, civic authorities, and emergency services including the 108 Ambulance.
In a coordinated rescue effort, four men from the first floor and four women from the fourth floor were safely evacuated. Rescue teams also brought out three dogs and two cat from the building.
Divisional Fire Officer, E B Matle, told reporters that the fire broke out at the Riyaz Ganji showroom.
The showroom was closed. Multiple things, the wiring, camera, garments, stock of looms, wooden partitions, hangars, everything was involved in the fire," the Divisional Fire Officer said.
"We broke the door, which is away from the entrance, and with four lines, two first aid lines, with the help of that the fire was extinguished...The people who could not come down from the building due to the smoke they were taken to the terrace, and even the animals were rescued," Matle added.
Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who had come to the site of the incident, highlighted the problems faced by the people due to the fire as a new work week starts.
Prabhat told ANI, "The fire started in the Sukhshanti building at around 6:30 am. And. Many people are suffering. Today is a working day. There were senior citizens, everyone had to walk down in the building and it is still full of water, and people have to go up in the dark. So I asked the BST and fire brigade people to start a phase by draining the water and find the reasons for the fire and take appropriate action about it."
