The results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, held from February 21 to March 17 by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, were declared on Tuesday at 1 pm.
A total of 14,966 students from 247 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run secondary schools appeared for the exams, of whom 13,907 cleared the exam. Thus, the BMC-run schools have registered an overall pass percentage of 92.92, higher from the 91.56 per cent recorded in 2024.
In 2023, the BMC schools had registered a pass percentage of 84.77.
Maharashtra SSC 2025 results: 118 students score more than 90 per cent
Notably, 89 BMC schools have achieved a 100 per cent result, and 118 students have scored above 90 per cent. Last year, 79 schools had recorded a 100 per cent record.
Sixty-three students had scored above 90 per cent in 2024. This year, that number has increased to 118.
Akshara Ajay Verma, a student of Worli Sea Face BMC Secondary School, was the highest scorer among civic school students, securing 96.80.
Nandini Shagunlal Yadav from Gajdhar Park Manekji Secondary School came second, scoring 96.20 per cent, followed by Sejal Sher Bahadur Yadav of Gundavali Mumbai Public School, who scored 95.60 per cent.
The BMC said that its schools have witnessed a steady improvement in the Class 10 board exams. It further claimed that under the guidance of BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, Additional civic commissioner (eastern suburbs) Dr Amit Saini, and Deputy Commissioner (Education) Dr Prachi Jambhekar, the education department had implemented a structured plan to help students prepare thoroughly for the SSC examinations. Practice papers based on the board exam format were conducted at the school level.
As part of the preparation strategy to improve the Maharashtra SSC 2025 results, the BMC Education Department developed its own practice booklet titled ‘Mission Merit’, to help students achieve higher marks. Ten practice papers were conducted at the school level in line with the board’s format. Each of its officer was assigned a school to provide regular guidance. Monthly meetings were held with the respective school officers and headteachers. Lecture series were organised for both teachers and students focused on improving exam performance, including sessions by board moderators. Regular meetings were held with students, teachers, parents, headteachers, and supervisory staff to ensure coordination and continuous improvement in results.
82 per cent pass rate at Mumbai Public School Poonam Nagar (CBSE)
In the academic year 2020–21, the BMC launched the Mumbai Public School Poonam Nagar in the K-East Ward. The school follows the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) curriculum. In the 2024–25 academic year, the school conducted its first batch of Class 10 students. A total of 38 students appeared for the examination, of which 13 secured more than 80 per cent. Misbah Farooqui came the highest with a 91 per cent score.
