The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education declared the results of the Std XII examinations held in February and March 2025. The overall pass percentage dropped to 91.88 per cent, a decline of 1.49 per cent compared to 93.37 per cent in 2024.
As in previous years, girls outperformed boys across nearly all divisions. A total of 14,27,905 students from all divisions—Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur, and Konkan—had registered under the regular category. Of these, 14,19,969 appeared and 13,29,684 passed, resulting in a 93.37 per cent pass rate.
Among repeater students, 1,99,123 had registered, 1,91,089 appeared, and 1,22,712 passed, giving a 64.23 per cent pass percentage. Despite some positive trends, the overall dip in pass percentage was attributed to strict anti-copying measures, according to Board Chairman Sharad Gosavi. “Stringent action on cheating may be one reason for the drop,” Gosavi said. “A similar dip was observed in 2022–23.”
Additional notes
20,943 students received grace marks under sports, NCC, and scout-guide quotas—each eligible for grace in only one category.
Officials say the consistent excellence of Konkan and Mumbai contrasts sharply with the underperformance of Latur, especially in Science and Commerce.
Despite a dip, the overall academic resilience and girls’ outstanding performance remain key takeaways from HSC 2025.
124 centres report cheating, 11 FIRs filed by authorities
State Board Chairman Sharad Gosavi said cheating was reported at 124 centres across all nine divisions during the February–March 2025 HSC exams, with 11 FIRs registered — two in Pune, seven in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and two in Mumbai. Pune reported the highest number of cheating cases, while Konkan reported only one.
To curb malpractices, a multi-tier security system was put in place. District-level supervisors monitored the process, and 215 centres were under special surveillance with surprise inspections. Of the 9545 centres, 8528 were declared sensitive or super-sensitive.
The exams were conducted in multiple languages, including English, Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, and Kannada. Written, oral, and internal assessments were uploaded to the Board’s online portal. Teachers and officers received special training on the new online result system.
Gosavi said some centres had a history of malpractice between 2019 and 2023, prompting stricter measures this year. Top officials conducted review meetings and on-site checks to ensure smooth operations. Assistant Moderators were posted at critical centres to maintain confidentiality and exam integrity.
Students appearing for entrance tests like JEE or NEET may need quick access to mark sheets or re-evaluation results. Divisional boards will allow such students to upload their exam registration proof for expedited processing. Under government norms, 20,434 students from sports, NCC, and scout-guide categories received grace marks.
