Four undertrial prisoners have been booked for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing a police escort team outside the Thane district court in Maharashtra on may 6.

As per PTI, the altercation took place shortly after the undertrials were brought to the Thane court from Aadharwadi Jail in Kalyan for a scheduled court hearing. The accused, Abdulla Sanjay Irani, Kashim alias Takaf Muktar Irani, Sourabh Manoj Salunke, and Sunil alias Sonya Shankar Fulore reportedly lost their temper following the court proceedings.

The prisoners were upset over the court granting a further hearing date which they found unsatisfactory. They also expressed frustration over being denied the opportunity to meet their relatives or receive home-cooked meals, which further fuelled their agitation.

As the escort team, comprising a sub-inspector and three constables attempted to guide the prisoners back into custody, the situation escalated. The undertrials allegedly began hurling verbal abuses at the officers before physically attacking them. The assault involved punching and manhandling the police personnel, causing injuries to at least one officer.

Following the attack, a complaint was lodged by the injured sub-inspector, prompting the local police to register a case against the four accused. As per PTI, the charges include Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which pertains to assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duty, and Section 121(1), which covers voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to a public servant. Additional relevant provisions have also been invoked, officials confirmed.

Man kills 15-year-old son, commits suicide in Palghar

A man allegedly strangled his 15-year-old son and hanged himself at their house in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said on Thursday.

As per PTI, the incident occurred in Pimpalsheth village in the tribal-dominated Jawhar taluka on Wednesday, an official said. Sharad Bhoye (40), a conductor with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) who was under suspension, strangled his son Bhavesh with a wire rope, sub-inspector Anil Dighole said.

He said Sharad had been under suspension for the last three months and was depressed about the situation.

As per preliminary probe, Bhoye had gone to his farmhouse around noon on Wednesday and strangled his son, a Class 10 student, after he returned home from school, and also banged the boy's body on the floor, causing fatal injuries.

The man then hanged himself from the ceiling in another room in the house, the official said.

Bhoye's father, who lived nearby, discovered the bodies and the authorities were alerted, he said.

The official said the bodies were sent for post-mortem, and a case was registered.
