A Vikhroli-based man has been arrested by the Parksite police for allegedly sexually assaulting a transgender person late Monday night (April 23), along with an accomplice, while under the influence of alcohol. According to police, the accused forcibly poured alcohol into the survivor’s mouth before dragging her behind a vehicle and brutally assaulting her.

The accused has been identified as Krushna Manohar Adlekar. According to the police, Adlekar and another male companion were driving around in a car at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, the survivor, accompanied by another transgender woman, believed to be her friend, was on her way to a medical shop to purchase medicine for a headache.

As the two transgender women were walking along Amrut Nagar near Masjid Galli, a car pulled up in front of them, and two men stepped out. The men began intimidating them, prompting the survivor’s friend to flee the scene. The survivor was then allegedly groped by the two men, who forcibly poured alcohol into her mouth. They reportedly dragged her behind the car, where the arrested accused allegedly sexually assaulted her.

“In an attempt to stop the brutality and defend herself, she retaliated by hitting and punching the accused. The victim was then physically assaulted,” said a police officer. Police who recorded her statement confirmed that she had bruises on her body, which were made using a sharp object, mostly a blade.

Following the assault, the two accused fled the scene, leaving the survivor stranded. She allegedly lost consciousness and, upon regaining awareness, found herself lying on the road with multiple bruises. She then called her sister for help, and together they rushed to Rajawadi Hospital. After her admission, hospital authorities informed the police. Police officials confirmed that the survivor remains hospitalised but is out of danger.

Based on the survivor’s statement, the police registered an FIR against the two accused under relevant Sections of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and applicable Sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. A medical examination was also conducted on the survivor, which will be used as evidence against the accused in court.

Adlekar was remanded to one-day police custody on Tuesday and subsequently sent to judicial custody on Wednesday, confirmed Santosh Ghatekar, senior police inspector of Parksite police station. “We have obtained CCTV footage of the crime, which will be used as evidence while filing the chargesheet. Meanwhile, efforts to trace the second accused are ongoing. The investigation is in progress,” Ghatekar added.
