Five Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Navi Mumbai for allegedly residing in India without valid immigration documents, according to PTI. The arrests were made following a targeted operation by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai Police, who raided a residential premise in the Karanjade locality of Panvel on Sunday morning.
The police action led to the discovery of six individuals, including two women and a child, all suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals. Following initial verification of their documents and immigration status, five adults were taken into custody.
According to police officials cited by PTI, three of the individuals had entered India legally but had overstayed their visas. The remaining two were found to have crossed the border without any legal permissions or travel documentation. Further investigations revealed that all the accused had managed to fraudulently acquire Indian identity documents, such as Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and voter identification cards. Shockingly, it was also discovered that three of the accused had managed to procure Indian passports through these means.
The five individuals arrested have been identified as Anna Khatun Akash Gazi (35), who was found along with her six-year-old daughter; Alo Khatun Ismail Gazi (31); Istrafil Islam Gazi (25); Kia Akash Gazi (21); and Akash Latif Gazi (40). In addition, a 52-year-old Indian national, Mohammad Ismail Aminoddin Yerulkar, has also been booked by authorities for allegedly assisting the group in obtaining fraudulent Indian identity documents and enabling their unlawful stay in the country.
BSF nabs five Bangladeshi nationals in Meghalaya for illegal entry
The Border Security Force’s (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier, in two separate operations along the India-Bangladesh border, intercepted and apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally enter India, officials said on Sunday.
According to an official press release, on Saturday, as part of BSF Meghalaya’s continued efforts to curb illegal infiltration and other cross-border crimes, the personnel acted on specific intelligence inputs and successfully intercepted five individuals attempting to cross the international border unlawfully and detained them, news agency ANI reported.
During a special operation conducted by the BSF personnel from the 193rd Battalion, two Bangladeshi nationals from Sunamganj District were apprehended along the international boundary in East Khasi Hills district. They confessed that they had crossed the border in search of employment opportunities in India. Both were handed over to the police for further legal action.
