Shivaji Satam
For many of us, Shivaji Satam will always be our ACP Pradyuman, and his role in CID is nothing short of iconic. But in his decades-long career, Satam has portrayed several memorable characters — he is much more than just ACP Pradyuman. As Shivaji Satam celebrates his birthday today, here's a look at five of his top performances apart from his role in CID.
Top roles of Shivaji Satam
Sooryavansham – Radha’s Father
The 1999 drama Sooryavansham is one of the most iconic films of its time. In the film, Shivaji Satam played one of the crucial supporting roles as Radha's father. Though in a supporting role, his performance adds depth to the film’s dynamics. In the film, Shivaji plays a conservative man who initially disapproves of his daughter’s relationship with Heera Thakur (Amitabh Bachchan).
Vaastav- Namdev
This is one of Shivaji Satam's most remembered roles in Bollywood. In Sanjay Dutt's highly acclaimed film Vaastav, Shivaji played the role of Raghu's (Sanjay Dutt) father, Namdev. While Namdev is an honest and humble man, his son chooses the path of crime and the underworld. Satam's performance in the climax scene, where he is forced to shoot his own son to free him from a life of crime, still haunts many.
Nayak: The Real Hero- Mr Ghatge
Shivaji Satam, with his performance in supporting roles, has managed to prove his mettle in several films, and Nayak is one of them. In this political action drama, Satam plays the protective and traditional father of Manjari (Rani Mukerji). His character, Mr. Ghatge, is skeptical if he wishes to give his daughter’s hand to the film’s hero, Shivaji Rao (played by Anil Kapoor).
Kurukshetra – Sambhaji Yadav
In Kurukshetra (2000), Shivaji Satam plays the role of Sambhaji Yadav, a seasoned opposition leader who initially stands by ACP Prithviraj Singh (played by Sanjay Dutt) in his battle against crime and corruption. While his character seemed to be an ally, the betrayal came as an iconic twist to the storyline. In this relatively brief but pivotal role, Shivaji Satam left a mark on his fans' hearts.
Juna Furniture – Magistrate
Shivaji Satam has managed to prove his mettle in the Marathi industry as well, not only in Hindi. Recently, in the 2024 film Juna Furniture, Satam played the role of a magistrate dealing with an old, unresolved court case involving family property.
