Three years after flying into the Cannes Film Festival with Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise returned to the Croisette on Wednesday for the grand premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. He walked the red carpet alongside the film’s director Christopher McQuarrie and the entire team of MI8, all striking a pose together as fans cheered from the sidelines.
Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast made a stylish entrance on the red carpet, with the iconic Mission: Impossible theme music playing live. An orchestra stationed at the end of the carpet and near the entrance of the screening hall created a dramatic and cinematic atmosphere.

Ahead of the Wednesday evening premiere, Cruise, McQuarrie, and the cast posed for photographers while much of the activity at the Palais was brought to a standstill by onlookers hoping to catch a glimpse of the superstar. While McQuarrie will participate in an on-stage interview, no official press conference was held for the film, meaning Cruise and the team did not face media questions.
Tom Cruise attends Masterclass at Cannes
The masterclass event at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival became even more special when Tom Cruise made a surprise appearance to celebrate his longtime friend and filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, as per Deadline.
Speaking about his admiration for McQuarrie, Cruise said, "I studied his career before we even met. I read his scripts, and what always struck me is that you could hear it, you could see it. I felt the filmmaker’s mind in the story — the craftsmanship of his work, where he's writing it editorially."
Cruise also praised McQuarrie’s meticulous attention to detail and storytelling, calling the Mission: Impossible films “a Swiss watch” because of how intricately they are built.
The duo has collaborated on over 11 films together, including Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, and five Mission: Impossible installments. Cannes 2025 officially kicked off on May 13 and will run until May 24.
