Maddock Films has reportedly faced a lawsuit from PVR Inox after they cancelled the theatrical release of their upcoming film Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. After the makers decided to cancel the release of the film due to “heightened security drills across the nation,” PVR has reportedly sued Maddock Films for Rs 60 crore for “non-playability” of the film.
PVR sued Maddock Films
PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani told News9Live that the abrupt decision has caused a significant loss. Trade analyst and business expert Komal Nahata took to his X account and wrote, "PVR-Inox has sued Maddock Films for damages of Rs. 60 crore for non-playability of the latter’s Bhool Chuk Maaf. According to PVR-Inox, Maddock suddenly canceled the film’s release (on May 9) from cinemas on account of poor advance booking. Of course, Maddock claims to have canceled the release in view of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and its aftermath."
Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan and ongoing security drills in the country, the makers of the film have decided to take the major step of shifting to a direct-to-OTT release. While announcing this major decision, the official page of Maddock revealed the news, saying, "In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theatres, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND."
