Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent comments about Brahmins amid the ongoing Phule film controversy have sparked outrage and led to an FIR being filed against him. Now, a Brahmin leader has offered a Rs 1 lakh reward to anyone who blackens the 'Gangs of Wasseypur' director’s face.

Rs 1 lakh reward to blacken Kashyap's face

Following Kashyap's remarks, Suresh Mishra of the Chanakya Sena and Akhil Bhartiya Brahman Mahasabha announced the reward of Rs 1 lakh, condemning Kashyap for his "anti-Brahmin" comments. Reportedly, an online meeting was held to discuss the matter, attended by several Brahmin organizations, including the Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha, Brahmin Seva Sangh, Vishwa Brahmin Parishad, and others.

The session was presided over by Pt. Suresh Mishra, National President of the Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha and Chief Patron of the Chanakya Sena. He stated that individuals like Kashyap, who promote social unrest, should be dealt with strictly and publicly shamed. In the same meeting, he announced the reward.

The comment that sparked outrage

Anurag Kashyap has been under fire since making a controversial statement against Brahmins and the CBFC while addressing the Phule controversy—a biopic on social reformer Jyotirao Phule, who fought against caste discrimination. On Instagram, Kashyap posted a series of messages criticising the CBFC and the Brahmin community.

In response to a user's comment on his post, Kashyap angrily responded with, "Brahmin pe main mtoonga... koi problem?"** This remark intensified the backlash.
An RTI activist, Atish Tiwari, has filed a complaint at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai.

Anurag questions caste system

Earlier, Kashyap questioned the double standards around the caste system in India while reacting to controversy around the film Phule. “At the screening of Dhadak 2, the Censor Board said Modi ji has ended casteism in India. On that basis, Santosh wasn't released in India. Now Brahmins have a problem with Phule. If there is no caste system, then why does the term Brahmin exist? Who are you? Why are you so offended? If caste doesn’t exist, then why did Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai exist? Either Brahminism doesn't exist, or everyone is fooling the public. Decide — is casteism real in India or not? People aren’t fools."
