New doors of development will open in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Contract agreement of project signed in Prime Minister Shri Modi’s presence at Jaipur.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today said that the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project will make both the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan ‘Sujalam-Sufalam’. The Memorandum of Agreement that has been signed here today between Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Central Government is not a general agreement; it will be something to remember for several decades to come. For this, the Government of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and the public all deserve congratulations. He expressed hope that work on the project would continue uninterruptedly and the project would be completed before time.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the programme marking the completion of one year of the Rajasthan Government's tenure and the tripartite agreement ceremony for the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project in Jaipur on Tuesday. The event was graced by the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri CR Patil and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. During the ceremony, the Memorandum of Agreement for the project was signed by representatives of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Central Government in the presence of Prime Minister Shri Modi. As a symbolic gesture, Prime Minister Modi poured water from a kalash containing water from the Chambal River into a larger kalash. He was then handed a kalash containing water from the Kalisindh River by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and another containing water from the Parvati River by Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, which he also poured into the same larger kalash, signifying the unity and collaboration between the states and the Center for the successful implementation of the project.
Prime Minister Shri Modi said that former Prime Minister Late. Atal Bihari Vajpayee had set a vision (dream) of interlinking the rivers for which a special committee was also formed. Plans were made to link the rivers but the previous governments kept it unnecessarily complicated. But our government works on the policy of dialogue, not conflict, cooperation, not opposition. Consequently, today the contract letter for the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project has been signed. Under the project, Chambal and its tributaries Parvati, Kalisindh, and Chambal will be interconnected. This will open new doors of development in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Prime Minister Shri Modi said that by linking rivers, it is possible to solve the problems of both flood and drought. We understand the importance of water. Water is divine, wherever it flows; it gives birth to new energy and power. It is the result of connecting the waters of the rivers that the Sabarmati River, which had completely dried up, has come alive once again. Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project will provide adequate water for irrigation and drinking water to both states.
Prime Minister Shri Modi said that under the leadership of Jal Shakti Minister Shri C.R. Patil, a huge campaign of water conservation ‘Rainwater Harvesting’ is being run in the country with public participation. With this, every drop of rainwater will be released into the earth to quench its thirst. It is our responsibility to give “Sujlam Suflam” Mother Earth to the coming generations, it is the responsibility of every citizen to conserve water resources and make meaningful use of every drop of water. Let us take time out for water conservation in our daily routine. Join the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. This is a respect for both our mother and Mother Earth.
Prime Minister Shri Modi’ gift of development
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that this is a historic day for both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. This project is taking shape after 20 long years due to the efforts of Prime Minister Shri Modi. Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Modi, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that like a modern-day Bhagiratha, he has given the gift of water flow to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh through this project. This is a unique project for the Chambal and Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, while thanking Prime Minister Shri Modi on the occasion of the MoA (Memorandum of Agreement) of the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal River Linking Project in Jaipur on Tuesday, said that on completion of one year of the present government of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the Prime Minister himself has come to give gifts to the public of both the states.
90 percent of funds for the project from the center
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the importance of this project can be understood from the fact that the estimated cost of the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project is Rs 72 thousand crore, in which Madhya Pradesh will spend Rs 35 thousand crore and Rajasthan will spend Rs 37 thousand crore. In this scheme of the Centre, 90 percent of the total cost will be the central share and the state’s share will be 10 percent. The total water storage capacity of the project will be 1908.83 cubic meters. Also, 172 million cubic meters of water will be reserved for drinking water and industries. 21 dams/barrages will be constructed under the project. Due to the project, there will be adequate water supply for drinking as well as irrigation purposes in the entire Western Madhya Pradesh including Sheopur, Bhind, Morena, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Agar, Indore, Dhar, Ujjain, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Sehore etc. 3217 villages of the state will benefit from the project. In Malwa and Chambal region, 6 lakh 13 thousand 520 hectares will be irrigated and drinking water will be available to a population of 40 lakh.
Due to the modernization work of the almost 60-year old Chambal Right Main Canal and distribution system, water will be made available in Bhind, Morena, and Sheopur districts as per the demand of the farmers. The total water storage capacity of the project will be 1908.83 cubic meters. Also, 172 million cubic meters of water will be reserved for drinking water and industries. 21 dams/barrages will be constructed under the project.
