Riding high on Deepak Soreng's brace Mumbai Port Authority (MbPT) booked their place in the final of the Mumbai Hockey Super League with an emphatic 4-2 win over Central Railway (CR) in an intense semi-final clash at Don Bosco High School (Matunga) turf yesterday.
CR drew first blood in the 20th minute as skipper Nizam Mohammad sent a precise strike low into the bottom-left corner to give his side a 1-0 lead. The goal sparked MbPT into action, and their efforts bore fruit just before half-time as Soreng confidently converted a penalty corner in the 29th minute to level the match at 1-1.

MbPT began the second-half with renewed vigour and quickly asserted control. Arham Ansari put them ahead in the 36th minute, capitalising on a well executed penalty corner to make it 2-1. The momentum stayed with MbPT as Stephen Swamy extended the lead six minutes later with a clinical finish into the bottom-right corner of the CR goal.
Joginder Singh briefly reignited CR's hopes in the 52nd minute, scoring off a penalty corner to reduce the deficit (2-3). However, within two minutes, Soreng returned to haunt CR, scoring off a brilliant solo effort after dribbling past two defenders before striking the ball into the bottom-left corner for a well-deserved 4-2 win.
Earlier, in the first semi-final, Champions Training Centre (CTC) defeated Union Bank of India (UBI) 3-1. CTC skipper Manpreet Singh struck twice while treammate Aakib Rahim added one goal for the victors. Darshit Jadhav reduced the deficit for UBI. The final between CTC and MbPT will be played on Sunday, May 11, at 3.30pm.
