Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Thursday said that the Mumbai airport is now monsoon ready after it successfully completed its annual runway maintenance works.
Ahead of the Mumbai rains, the Mumbai airport had last month announced that the operations at runway will halt for six hours on May 8 for pre-monsoon maintenance.
It had said that the runway operations will remain suspended from 11 am to 5 pm on May 8, as part of its annual pre-monsoon safety measures.
An official statement said that CSMIA, operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has successfully concluded scheduled runway maintenance, making it monsoon ready.

It said that in a calibrated six-hour operation from 11 am to 5 pm, both runways-- RWY 14/32 and RWY 09/27 were thoroughly inspected and restored to optimal condition. The entire operation was executed efficiently and according to a well-structured plan, ensuring there were no disruptions to flight schedules.
As a part of the large-scale preventative maintenance activity, CSMIA carried out pavement maintenance, electrical (AGL and substation) maintenance, rubber removal on the runway, surface marking and major drain cleaning work. A dedicated team thoroughly inspected over 3,000 runway lights for signs of wear and tear. The drain pits and chambers along the runway strip, as well as critical lighting, IT, and navigational aid cables, were inspected for integrity. With over 950 air traffic movements each day, CSMIA consistently ensures continuity of operations through regular checks and repairs to maintain runway health, it said.
The annual preventative runway maintenance is undertaken to optimise the airport's operational efficiency, it said.
It further said that as a critical aviation hub handling over 950 daily flight movements, CSMIA will continue to prioritise infrastructure resilience and passenger safety without compromise.
"A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued in advance to stakeholders, allowing flight schedules to be planned and minimising inconvenience to passengers. As one of the busiest airports in the country, CSMIA takes immense pride in its ability to maintain safe, seamless, and uninterrupted operations, supported by carefully planned and precisely executed maintenance. Regular runway inspections and timely maintenance are essential to keeping the runways in optimal condition and maintaining infrastructure to meet the highest standards," the statement reads.
