Tensions between India and Pakistan have risen sharply after unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces across the Line of Control on the night of May 4-5. The Indian Army gave a strong and measured response, targeting multiple sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. This marks the 11th straight day of India’s retaliation since similar attacks began on April 25-26. High-level defence meetings took place, with the Air Force and Navy chiefs meeting Prime Minister Modi. India had already closed its airspace to Pakistani aircraft on April 30, following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. In response, Indian forces have launched major counter-terror operations in Kashmir and have been given full freedom to deal with any threats.
