IN PHOTOS: Rains bring respite from intense heat in Mumbai

Mumbai witnessed thundershowers on Wednesday evening, bringing much-needed respite from the intense May heat. On Tuesday night, too, the city had received moderate rainfall, resulting in a slight dip in the mercury levels (PICS/SATEJ SHINDE, SAYYED SAMEER ABEDI and SHADAB KHAN)

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a weather alert for Mumbai, predicting thunderstorm, lightning, winds and moderate spells of rains. PIC/SATEJ SHINDE

In a nowcast warning issued on Wednesday evening, IMD said, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Palghar, Mumbai, Thane during next 3-4 hours. PIC/SATEJ SHINDE

On Tuesday night, Mumbai witnessed a change in the weather pattern, which continued on Wednesday, too. PIC/SATEJ SHINDE

The city has been receiving moderate and light spells of rains since Tuesday night. PIC/SATEJ SHINDE

According to the IMD, many areas across Konkan, Goa, Marathwada, and Gujarat are expected to get light to moderate rain over the next few days. PIC/SATEJ SHINDE

Rains were witnessed in several areas of south Mumbai, too, including in Matunga (seen above). PIC/SAYYED SAMEER ABEDI  

The IMD had also predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds at isolated places in Raigad, Pune, Jalgaon, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur Beed, Jalna, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur, Amravti.  PIC/SAYYED SAMEER ABEDI  

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively. PIC/SAYYED SAMEER ABEDI

Meanwhile, 13 incidents of tree collapses have been reported from the city on Wednesday. PIC/SHADAB KHAN
