Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Eknath Shinde on Wednesday participated in the Tiranga Yatra in Thane and lauded the armed forces and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving a "befitting" reply following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Shinde, who was in an open jeep, was accompanied by Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Member of Parliament (MP) from Thane Naresh Mhaske and other leaders of Shiv Sena.
"Terrorists wiped out the 'sindoor' (vermilion, a symbol of marital status for Hindu women) of our sisters, and we gave them a befitting reply," said Shinde.

The Tiranga Yatra is being carried out across the country to celebrate the success of India's Armed Forces in Operation Sindoor.
"Pakistani terrorists wiped off the 'sindoor' of our sisters, in Pahalgam. They were given a befitting reply through Operation Sindoor. The Operation has been successful...PM Modi has said 'Wahan se goli chalegi, yahan se gola chalega'. So, I express gratitude to all three services of the country as well as PM Narendra Modi. The PM backed the jawans of our armed forces and supported the sentiments of the countrymen. We had never had such a Prime Minister," the Deputy CM said.
The yatra was launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday as a part of a significant public outreach effort to honour the valour of Indian soldiers, inform citizens about Operation Sindoor's recent success and the government's decisive response to Pakistan-based terrorism. The Shiv Sena, which is headed by Shinde, is in alliance with the BJP in the Centre and the state.
Tiranga Yatra to conclude on May 23 at National War Memorial
The yatra, which kicked off at Delhi's Kartavya Path with a symbolic march featuring a 108-foot-tall national flag, will conclude on May 23 at the National War Memorial.
Thousands of citizens, including BJP workers, citizens, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), residents' welfare associations (RWAs), religious leaders, and social organisations are taking part in the yatra to pay tribute to the armed forces.
According to BJP sources, ex-servicemen, social workers, and prominent public figures will lead the marches in various states, underscoring the message of unity, patriotism, and national pride. The campaign is being seen as more than just a party initiative, with the BJP aiming to turn it into a large-scale people's movement.
Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7 in response to the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people - a local and 25 tourists.
In a retaliatory response, the Indian Armed Forces eliminated over 100 terrorists across the border in Pakistan.
Though Pakistan launched a counteroffensive, India responded with force, leading to a ceasefire and reasserting its defence posture.
Through the Tiranga Yatra, the BJP aims to remind citizens of India's resolute stand against terrorism and to foster a deeper sense of nationalism and unity across the country.
