Neysha's husband lost his job on the cruise liner in 2018 due to medical reasons. Knowing that he wouldn't be able to go back to work, the Mumbaikar decided to take up the task of providing for the family by starting her food business in 2019. She got support from her friends and neighbours and even her church as word spread about her cooking skills
A year later Covid-19 pandemic hit and everything shut but it was also a time that people trusted home cooked food. That's when she showcased her business acumen and started a WhatsApp group with her friends and clients, and started taking orders and delivering food, with the help of her husband. Unfortunately, her husband passed away in August 2021, but she still continued to take orders only so that she could provide for her children
In the last five years, even though there have been many challenges including running a business in Orlem, which is a competitive area, the 50-year-old took on the challenges head on and came out stronger every time. While she cooks, she also plans the meals, packing and even does marketing, and even steps up to do delivery, which is usually done by WeFast (now Borzo)
It is not only the logistical challenges but also the fact that as a home chef, people expect good quality at low prices because they think expenses are reduced. In the bargain, she can't even charge more. However, the cost of ingredients are always rising and that remains a challenge but she is grateful for her support system in the form of her children, extended family, friends and clients
Today, she not only makes delicious cakes and desserts but also chicken croquettes, ribbon sandwiches and other savoury delights. Through it all, her two boys have been her biggest support system, as they often put her work before themselves. Being a mother, Neysha says for her they are always a priority, and she will manage to run the business while being there for them always\
