For the longest time, Mamta Anant Mehta spent her time at home as an arts and crafts teacher educating not only young but old people on how they can use their creative skills to make unique things
Unfortunately, that stopped during the Covid-19 pandemic because people couldn't come for classes due to the lockdown
Thinking on her feet, she decided to make theplas. It was after a neighbour told the 50-year-old that a lot of neighbours in her Andheri East neighbourhood didn't have access to traditional delicacies
While she started with making delicious theplas, soon enough she also started making undhiyu during the winter season. The popularity of her homemade dishes soon made her start Ruhi Homemade. Now, she has a WhatsApp group that helps her connect with clients and people not only in Mumbai but also in India and around the world including Malaysia -- all of which have happened due to word of mouth
Mamta has come a long way from the time she was an arts and crafts teacher. However, she continues to keep this as her passion by making it only when she can so that she doesn't feel pressured to do it. This summer, she is also making traditional Gujarati pickles including chunda for members of the community and anybody who would like to taste it
