Shubhangi Atre and Piyush Poorey
Actor Shubhangi Atre's ex-husband, Piyush Poorey, recently passed away after suffering from liver cirrhosis. Now, days after his demise, Atre talked about the reason for their separation and shared that Piyush was an alcohol addict. Shubhangi parted ways with Piyush in February this year.
In conversation with Times of India, Shubhangi shared that she spoke to Piyush on April 16 and said, "It's easy for people to judge without knowing the full story. They assume I left him due to my success, but that's not true. Our separation was a result of years of struggle. I didn't leave because I became successful, I left because his alcohol addiction took a toll on our lives. I tried everything I could to save my marriage, but it was beyond my control. Even sending him to rehab didn't work. Both our families also tried their best to help him, but addiction destroyed him and affected all of us."

"I had to prioritise my daughter Ashi's well-being, so I made the difficult decision to part ways. It wasn't a decision made overnight. Things started going wrong around 2018-2019, and it eventually led to the divorce in 2025. Even after our divorce, I remained in touch with Piyush and encouraged him to seek help," Shubhangi shared while talking about her daughter Ashi.
Shubhangi and Piyush's divorce was finalised in February this year, ending their 22-year marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in 2003, share a daughter named Ashi, born in 2006. They had been separated for a year before their divorce was legally granted.
She will soon be making her Bollywood debut with a film on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain in which she plays Angoori Bhabhi. Talking about entering B-town, Shubhangi said, "I am an actor and an artist, and no matter what the medium is, whether it's TV, films, OTT, or theatre, I believe in giving my 100% with full dedication and discipline. Of course, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain! is now being made into a film, so the work is quite similar to what we do on television. But still, there is a different kind of nervousness and excitement."
