Shubhangi Atre and Piyush Poorey
Popular television actress Shubhangi Atre's ex-husband, Piyush Poorey, has passed away. The actress is best known for her role in the sitcom 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain'. Poorey passed away on Saturday after a long battle with liver cirrhosis.
Speaking to The Times of India, Atre confirmed the news of her ex-husband's demise and requested privacy. "Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this," she said.
Shubhangi and Piyush's divorce was finalized in February this year, ending their 22-year marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in 2003, share a daughter named Ashi, born in 2006. They had been separated for a year before their divorce was legally granted.

Previously, Shubhangi had spoken about her divorce, calling it "painful." In an interview with Bombay Times, she said the split was due to irreconcilable differences, but described the experience of moving on as "peaceful."
"I feel a sense of peace, as if a heavy burden has been lifted," she said.
After announcing their separation in 2023, Atre stated that her primary focus would be providing for her daughter and advancing her career. She had shared, "Even now, this decision is difficult. My family is my top priority, and we all want to keep our families together, but some damage cannot be repaired. When a relationship of many years breaks up, it affects you mentally and emotionally. But we had to take this step, and I agree with it. Mental stability is paramount. I always believe that adversity teaches you a lesson."
She will soon be making her Bollywood debut with a film on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain in which she plays Angoori Bhabhi. Talking about entering B-town, Shubhangi said, "I am an actor and an artist, and no matter what the medium is, whether it's TV, films, OTT, or theatre, I believe in giving my 100% with full dedication and discipline. Of course, 'Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain!' is now being made into a film, so the work is quite similar to what we do on television. But still, there is a different kind of nervousness and excitement."
