Till date, Kohli stands as the most successful Indian captain in the longest format of the game. The veteran comes second on the list after Sunil Gavaskar to score the most runs in a series by any Indian captain. Kohli has scored 655 runs during the 2016-17 Test series against England. Gavaskar tops the list by 732 runs in the 1978/79 Test series against West Indies

The 36-year-old holds the top spot on the list of most runs scored by an Indian captain in a Test innings. During the Test series against South Africa in 2019, the right-hander registered a score of an unbeaten 254 runs, which till date stands as the highest score by any Indian captain in a Test innings
