Shubman Gill’s blazing knock was overshadowed by a controversial dismissal that left the skipper fuming in a high-octane IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.

Gill was in supreme touch, hammering a 38-ball 76 to give Titans a blistering start. Alongside Sai Sudharsan, he launched a brutal assault on the SRH bowling, adding 87 runs in just 6.5 overs. Sudharsan’s 23-ball 48, marked by clean timing and graceful strokes, set the tone before he fell to Zeeshan Ansari’s googly, caught behind by Heinrich Klaasen.

Despite that, the Titans maintained their momentum. Jos Buttler joined Gill and carried the attack forward, eventually contributing a 37-ball 64. The Englishman also crossed the 4000-run milestone in IPL with a towering six off Ansari. Their combined efforts propelled GT to a formidable 224/6.

However, the biggest talking point of the innings was Gill’s bizarre run-out on the last ball of the 13th over. Buttler tapped a delivery from Ansari towards short fine-leg and set off for a quick single. Harshal Patel fielded sharply and unleashed a direct hit at the stumps. Gill was visibly short of his ground, but controversy erupted when replays showed Klaasen’s gloves brushing the stumps almost simultaneously with the ball’s arrival.

The third umpire deliberated at length, scrutinising multiple angles, but eventually ruled Gill out. The decision left the GT skipper visibly displeased. Moments later, cameras caught him in a heated exchange with the match officials in the dugout, clearly questioning the verdict.

Despite the setback, Gill’s innings had already done the damage. He brought up his half-century with a signature drive through extra cover, needing just 25 balls to reach the landmark. He also survived a dropped chance by Pat Cummins on 66, following a slower delivery from Harshal Patel that deceived him. Unfortunately for Gill, his second life didn’t last long, thanks to the controversial dismissal.

GT finished strong, thanks to some lusty blows from Buttler and a cameo from David Miller. Jaydev Unadkat’s triple strike in the final over pegged the Titans back slightly, but the total of 224 remained a daunting challenge for SRH.
