There were no cheerleaders, fireworks, music or DJ activities that are usually associated with an IPL match during the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Wednesday. This was in accordance with the directives issued by the BCCI as a sign of respect for the victims of Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The two teams observed a minute’s silence before the start of play, and the players and umpires wore black armbands throughout.

At the toss, SRH skipper Pat Cummins said, “It has been heartbreaking for us as well. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.” His opposite number, Hardik Pandya of MI also offered his condolences. “I would like to firstly offer my condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack. We, as a team and a franchise, condemn any such attacks,” said Pandya.

The fans appreciated the gesture. “It was nice on the part of the BCCI to mourn the deaths of the innocent tourists who were shot dead while on holiday,” Rakesh Rao, an ITI employee, told mid-day.
