Delhi Capitals’ in-form batter KL Rahul added an unexpected twist to a regular nets session when he snapped his bat clean in half, leading to a wave of laughter thanks to a clever quip by captain Axar Patel.

The light-hearted moment was captured and shared by DC’s official social media on Thursday. Watch it below:

During a recent training session, Rahul, known for his calm demeanour and elegant stroke play, was seen batting with intensity. However, mid-shot, his bat gave way and broke in two, leaving only the handle and a small portion of the blade in his hands. The scene turned comical when Patel picked up the shattered top half and turned the mishap into a moment of banter.

Patel joked that the broken bat resembled a mongoose bat, a unique piece of cricketing equipment famous for its long handle and short blade, designed to generate extra power in T20 formats. Holding up the handle-end of Rahul’s broken bat, Patel playfully introduced it to teammate Tristan Stubbs as his new mongoose bat, drawing laughs from the surrounding players.

The mongoose bat reference struck a chord with fans, particularly because of how eerily similar Rahul’s broken blade appeared to the original. This spontaneous display of locker-room camaraderie highlighted the upbeat mood within the Capitals’ camp as they continue their strong campaign in IPL 2025.

Rahul, who switched to Delhi Capitals this season, has been in stellar touch. His recent performances, including a composed unbeaten 57 off 42 deliveries against Lucknow Super Giants, have been instrumental in Delhi’s rise on the points table.

Delhi Capitals squad: Axar Patel (c), Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, Karun Nair, KL Rahul(w), Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Sameer Rizvi, Darshan Nalkande, Donovan Ferreira, Tripurana Vijay, Dushmantha Chameera, Faf du Plessis, T Natarajan, Ajay Jadav Mandal, Manvanth Kumar L, Madhav Tiwari
